The amount of c00ns in Latin nations turns me off so much :scusthov:

The number of people, e.g. in Brazil, trying to deny their Blackness is sad but on the other hand, Latin America has some of the most authentic traditions handed down from the Motherland. For example, compare an experience in Salvador vs. São Paolo (sisters are better in Salvador too in my opinion). Even the Gullah don't have the deepness of connections some people over there do. You can avoid the c00ns if you want. Also realize the depth of a racist structures in society they have to deal with and how race is defined differently (to blunt Black unity) so it isn't shocking the weaker people go full Uncle Tom.

3rd month has been the hardest one ... Found a few sources for catching BR TV
but had to ultimately get IPTV so I can get the channels in better quality streams.

Reading - I can't comprehend a lot of words but I can identify root words in english
Writing - Not much to say here except the text conversations
Hearing - I can watch kids shows just fine but adult shows are a struggle
Speaking - A lot of gaps in grammar and vocabulary

Time for phase 2....

- Going to improve vocabulary and grammar through 2 hours a day of study
( FS1 Brazil/ Textbooks/ Online courses )
- Watch a movie/listen to a podcast a day
- Catch #ESPNBrazil for NBA games
- Continue conversations with muita mulheres

I had a dream I was spitting fluently on some native sh!t.... time to deliver :wow:

Try practicing your listening comprehension with this :shaq:

I have two whiteboards and they are amazing for daily words, learning sentences, etc. Best purchase when it comes to my language learning.

German btw.

I've started to read newspapers but can only get a few sentences.

How's everyone's progress coming along?

My reading comprehension and writing skills in French are definitely improving but my listen comprehension is lagging quite a bit. My spoken French is absolutely horrible.

I can read a news article from "Le Monde" (French newspaper equivalent to NY Times in terms of influence and quality of writing) and get the main gist of the article. However, I do struggle to 'comprehend' spoken French at a decent pace.

E.g. I'll be watching French 24 news and a commentator will say something about Togo. By the time I've processed she said 'the is civil unrest in Togo because of upcoming elections' she would have switched topics completely.

Still a struggle but I gotta push on. I really do feel like if I got 6 months immersion in a Francophone country I'd reach the level of fluency I'd like for my future goals.

Need to start looking at international companies :jbhmm:

Reading - I read portuguese words in english in my head ... I need to work on that
Speaking - Brazilians have applauded my pronounciation but I have to grasp words from memory
Writing - I do ok for everyday conversations, expression isn't great and need to improve gramatica
Listening - Music and podcasts have helped trumendously but they can have some native idioms im unfamiliar with
Watching - Youtube has kept me fed with 24/7 streams of GloboNews, The Simpsons, SouthPark, My Wife and Kids

Overall I need to get better with grammar and vocabulary then writing and comprehension.

The fact there's brazilian hip hop/rnb/soul/reggea along with samba and funk got me like :wow:

I won't even get into the sheer will power you need to have when dealing their women...

I'd cheat everyday if I lived there .... :whew:

Keep up the good work, french is a tough language to learn, but practice makes perfect.

Spanish; been doing binges on Duolingo, but I take like a week off and do it again. I'm learning Spanish from a Cuban and Salvadorian, my grammar is getting better, I'm still having problems with the verb conjugations, but things are getting better. My friends tell me I'm getting better at reading so we'll see what's up in the next year.

I don't find it that hard to be honest, at least the grammar and such. The problem is speaking and understanding spoken French. The silent sounds get me every time. Other than that, it's been pretty good on the written and reading parts.
I think the best way is just immersion for speaking and listening. Need to get to the point that to eat you MUST speak the language to an extent. Grammer and such can be learned anywhere with time and hard work.

That's a first, most people I know tell me it's hard because of all the rules comparee to the other Latin based languages like spanish or Italian.

I agreed with the bolded, if you're somrewhere where the language is foreign, if you wanna survive you have to adapt.

Out of curiosity are you learning French from France? Apparently Over here in the CanadIan school system they teach us bootleg Quebec french; don't quote me on that, I heard this from people from France, Haiti and francophone African countries.

I'm learning Parisian French which is meant to be standard French when compared to the other varieties of French (Quebec, Swiss, Belgian, W. African etc)

EDIT: On of the greatest feelings in a language is when you start comprehending full blown sentences and can really start absorbing information with out having to translate it in your head.

Learning Spanish right now at work with my co-workers teaching me. It's weird I do notice myself getting a little bit better. I should study it in a book
