If you've NEVER made a beat before, prepare to:

1 - Spend 6 months just learning / getting better before you even have some PRESENTABLE you can show someone (and I mean like, 6+ hours EVERYDAY for 6 months... I did it in 4 but, I'm a robot)

2 - be prepared to learn the business side of things.. a little about contracts, how to get a lawyer,, all that

3 - WOULD REALLY HELPED if you live in ATL or NY... but, seeing as theirs twitter now....

4 - Be prepared to have BALLS OF STEEL and not afraid to talk / negotiate with people... a good manager could also be vital, because it can be a huge conflict of interest negotiating / making beats also... matter fact, fukk that, you do need a manager thats JUST AS DRIVEN / DEDICATED as you and who will NOT SCREW YOU OVER (not so easy)

5 - going back to point 1, your shyt has to be FIRE, period.... and being diverse helps.. you need a good ear for music

6 - be prepared to give away beats for free for the first year or 2.. and again, really have to be sociable and talk to people

7 - get your work copywrited (not hard)

If you can't do ALL THESE THINGS, and a few others I'm probably forgetting.. Forget it.

If you CAN do all these things... NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE says, getting into the music industry really is not hard.. it TRULY ISN'T.... to me, "hard" is lifting 400lbs when you only weigh 150... That's "hard".... getting into the music business is as SIMPLE AS PIE.... but it takes DEDICATION , 1000% FOCUS AND A LOT OF TIME....

fukk luck.. there is no such thing as luck in the music business.... Just time, dedication and aggressiveness...

If you can do all this, you can make it...

Once you've made it: A TON of producers blast on the scene, then fade in a few years (scott storch, lex luger, just blaze... bunch of others)... then you really don't see em too much.... I think EVERYONE will fizzle out after a while... but if you want a LONG TERM career... Learn how to write lyrics / HOT SONGS / HOOKS also.... Giving somebody a fire beat = sex with a dime piece.... Giving somebody a fire beat and a CRAZY hook = a 4some.

What would the "BAlllllllin" beat have been without the ad lib? Just another song.

If you have talent, you already know how to make magic happen... I can make 10 hits in the next 2 hours if I want.... Not sure if you have skills like that.

Are you still ready to tackle this endeavor? If yes, thank me later. If no, thank me now. You'll waste YEARS of your life if you aint bout what I told you above.

MUSIC
I use Reason and live off my music but I've been making music the majority of my life. I also have a manager so that helps greatly.

Anyway since you're just starting I'd say just do it as a hobby for now.

Its not easy.

Within 4 months of ever touching Fruity Loops, I had Jagged edge road manager calling me saying he wanted to hear more beats (after I sent demo to studio) .... I had the #1 underground rapper in ATL (at the time.. he's made songs with T.I., Pastor Troy, T Pain)... telling me i'm the best sampling producer in the south....

I stopped fukking with beats because I couldn't get a trust worthy manager and I wanted a way to make money IMMEDIATELY... Not possibly wait years.

But the shyt is retarded easy if you have that drive.

Im one of the best producers on this site

I used to make a living off beats to the extent of me only having to work part time at my regular gig and still maintain a middle class lifestyle

Im a real producer tho not beatmaker

I actually work with the artists in the studio and produce the vibe and direction of the song music and vocals

I only use hardware and vinyl. Software is for wannabeez. Ssmple packs are also for wannabeez.

Theres not much money in it now becuz artists are broke, samples are insanely expensive to clear, and people oversaturate the net so mcs dont need to pay

networking is important to. I dont network too much cuz rappers are mostly losers snd dropout druggies or gangbangers. I dont like being around that environment since im a family man.

but if u do, download sum lame software, a vst everyone else is using, a sample pack everyone already has, boit up your plugins and make sum cool funky fresh beats that sound like evrry other beat u hear

LOL wow... PLEASE dont listen to that guy... PLEASE....

You can buy a $500 desktop / monitor, $100 keyboard controller, and LITERALLY download $25,000 +++ Worth of software.

ANYONE who uses an MPC or a Tritan or whatever is a FOOL....

Here are negatives of using hardware:

-Expensive ($2,000, $3,,000 keyboards)
- if it breaks, what then?
-Tiny ass screens... which is better... a 5inch x 5 inch screen on keyboard, or a 20" to 30" laptop screen?

I can go on for ages, but I wont... Not knocking anyone who has bought hardware, they just didn't know better.

Right now Xtraz, you have a chance to know better.... So, if you go the hardware route, you're on CRACK.

The whole stigma about "fruity loop" beats.... How can I explain this.... Making a beat with Fruity looops / VST is like driving on a trip..... Hardware you take a plane (and I am being nice, since softare is much easier than hardware due to the LARGE SCREEN)

You're LITERALLY going to the same place... It just depend on how you'll get there.... NO BEATS MADE ON HARDWARE DOESN'T SOUND BETTER THAN FRUITY LOOP BEATS.... That'd be like saying if you fly to Miami vs Taking the bus, the bytches are gonna be finer on south beach if you fly...... (makes ZERO sense right?)

The reason Fruity Loops got a bad stigma, is because it's easy to download the software for free, and 1 billion noobs got it, made some shytty beats with 1 week of practice, and then gave up.... Now, "Fruity loop beats" is looked at as an Aids patient, when it's really a DIME PIECE just like hardware (much better than hardware, for reasons I've already stated)

I made beats that sound like Timbaland, Kanye West, DJ Toomp... etc etc....

Just listen to me on this... anything else these nikkas talkin is bullshyt
