I knew a dude like that. He came in on a job I was working years ago and went back in a few months later. He told me he was shocked at how unorganized the civilian world is. It was funny though because near the end he started telling the supervisor how to do their job and he was actually on point with it.

Keeping it 💯...if you got out the military before your 20 years...you've played yourself!

Take it from someone who regrets it every day.

It's worked out in the end for me, but all my friends who did their 20 were basically rich and kicked back before me. I was out here scrambling because I took the security of the military for granted.

At the least you have better leave with 100% disability. Anything other than that you fumbled a bag.

I tell young Airmen and Sailors all the time to stay in. Civilian life is for the birds. It’s hard out here. Do your twenty and get your bachelors and masters before getting out. When your 38, you have a retirement and skills to get a GS12-14 position somewhere.

Spoke you one last week.

Me: “How much more time you have in Oki?”
Him: “I got one more month.”
Me: “What’s your next duty station?”
Him: “I’m getting out. I want to be a contractor.”
Me: “You AVI? You good then, I could link you with 10 companies that needs avi techs right now.”
Him: “Naw, I’m a crew chief”

I don’t know how crew chiefs translate in the civilian work. I doubt it does. Maybe helicopters or emergency firefighters.
:what:
Point is, 12 more years you have TriCare for life plus other benefits. Imagine being taken care of for 8 years, traveling the world, smashing foreign, getting promoted to E-6 just to leave and get a job making 50K somewhere if you are lucky.
:picard:
Now you have bills and shyt. You smashing local Alabama women and have to pay your own rent.
:francis:
Alabama women.
:mjlol:
Even if you have a high skill job (IT, nursing, nuclear), most of the time the money will always be there when you get out.

They try and tell you, but being a young soldier you don't listen and think you know everything.

You listen to the other disgruntled soldiers telling you how much more money you'll make in the civilian world and without people pulling rank and you bite.

Then you get out after your 1st enlistment and find out how hard the civilian side is.

Bro respectfully I touched gs13 and I never served a day in my life. There’s other avenues fr. Granted I been doing defense/govt work since I graduated. I almost spit the water I was drinking when my director gave me that position off the strength of my resume.

Private sector is ass cheeks I won’t lie. I’ll probably be working this gig for 5-10yrs. I need a pension. Unless I get rich like multiple m’s type shyt

You gonna have to speak for yourself

I get what you saying, but some didn't want to stay for 20+ years and did just fine, some really are lifers but by the time they get out, they still working but usually can only work in military type positions on civilian side

Not bad decisions either way. Also, retirement payout ain’t the same no more I heard

The military can REALLY set up young brothers for life given they take advantage of all the perks of being a veteran.

Don’t spend every weekend at the club

DO NOT GET MARRIED. I repeat DO NOT GET MARRIED. You can have a girlfriend, hell you can have two but do not under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES take any of them for a bride. Save it for when your ready to leave.

USE YOUR G.I. BILLS. BAH is literally free money.
