Bossing doctors around does not require clinical experience. What are you talking about?

I'm a sleep tech :mjcry: Have been one for 6 years :to: I have a degree in psychology that was useless, and now I'm in grad school for MHA. How did you get into Surgery Tech?

What certifications should I be looking at getting if I'm a MHA student?

I'm a sleep tech without the RPSGT accreditation. I;ll probably getting it beginning of next year. Once I get my MHA, I'm getting the fukk outta sleep medicine.

lol I ow3 about 100k to sallie mae, and around 40 to fed student loans. I pay a grand a month on just sallie mae :to:

What makes you say that? I would love to go that route, but man I can't keep going to school like this. Plus I'd need to get all the prereqs out of the way before I even joined a program.
What makes me say what?

thinking about going back to school and getting a degree in the medical field...I don't know what tho. I wanted to do radiology but classes are only in the morning and I work 8-5. Anybody have any good suggestions?

I'm a physician assistant that makes great money. Great career decision if you want the higher pay without the responsibilities of a real doctor. Takes approximately 2 years of training after college. Excellent career opportunities.

Medicine is also an excellent choice as well. There is currently a HUGE push to enroll minorities in med school due to the dearth of black physicians. Out here, and the pay is HUGE. I make approximatly 240K/yr, but i could easily double that as a doc. However, they school anywhere between 7-12 years after college, depending on the profession. However, the community needs them, so don't let the time option scare you. If you complete it, the benefits are wonderful!. The respect you get. The options in life open up.

For the best career for someone that is not sure what they want to do, but wants the best bang for the buck strongly consider nursing. Nursing is anywhere from 1-2 years after college. however, you can also earn a BSN which is a college degree/RN. You can get this in a 2-3 year program at MANY SCHOOLS, even online. The BSN is ideal because if you attain it, you have a PLETHORA of options afterwards. Getting a Phd, jobs in management, consulting, or even a Nursing Practioner are all possibilities. You'll have a great set of survial skills and can make money anywhere in the world. Truly a degree with many different paths to make money in.

Healthcare in general is a good career, provided you like working with people and don't mind the site of disgusting things like blood and guts. You're young so you have time. But once you identify what you want to do, start immersing yourself in the environment where these people work so you can see it in real life. Consider volunteering at your local hospital.

a PA is such a lick. you can easily make 100k, but like you said, you don't have to go to medical school and do all that bullshyt. plus you can practice and see patients.

I also agree that nursing is a great field as well. if you get a BSN and then anything else in grad school like an MPA, MHA or MBA, you are gonna :eat: cuz you can get one of those nursing administration jobs that allow you to work regular hours, where you don't really have to deal with patients if u don't want to. so you can do risk managment, quality managment, patient utilization or whatever. the posibilities are endless. I wish I had my RN, cuz nurses that have good technical skills get paid cuz you know the clinical shyt as well as the informatics stuff.

I'll never become a nurse cuz I refuse to go back to school. and after being student load free for years, I'm not about that life again.

also my sister in law is currently in her final year of medical school to be an anestesiologist.

.

what I was saying that I have worked places where the head person in charge was a nurse. albeit a nurse with an MBA/MPH and MHA. she was in charge of all the doctors and everyone in the facility including the medical director.

as for me, I don't work for a hospital anymore. I work for a company that makes the software that a lot of hospitals use to track quality metrics, patient safety metrics, and patient utilization metrics.

thats why I work at home. because our clients (who are hospital and health care systems) are all over the country and I don't need to be in an office. plus my office is in arizona anyways so its not feasable.

Aren't there a bunch of prereqs for PA?
Yes their certainly is.

If you're thinking of doing it look up the universities with PA programs and compare the pre reqs, costs and locations. I'm sure you'll find one in your area, they are popping up all over the place. I started in 2010 and graduated in 2012. There was 3 PA programs in the south Florida area at that time now theirs about 5.

I would really consider doing it if I had the prereqs, but I avoided chemistry and calculus like the plague when I was an undergrad. My plan after getting my MHA is to get my postbac in accounting. I think things will really open up for me once I do that.

I'm a psych nurse working on an adult unit. Moneys pretty good for a young 20 something like me, and the unpredictability makes my job interesting.

what's the best way to get into healthcare IT if you have no healthcare experience job wise.. majority of my experience is helpdesk type work as far as IT goes. Is it a waste of time and money to get a health IT certificate? most of the jobs i looked at want you to have experience working in a hospital setting. My main goal is to change careers from healthcare to IT. yea im crazy but the only thing i like about IT is surfing the net. i dont have a passion for it. My ultimate goal is to get a job at a hospital or maybe a university hospital where they pay for college. then transition into a healthcare career. (PA, nurse practitioner, nutrionist). not sure what aspect of healthcare. so many choices.
