what's the best way to get into healthcare IT if you have no healthcare experience job wise.. majority of my experience is helpdesk type work as far as IT goes. Is it a waste of time and money to get a health IT certificate? most of the jobs i looked at want you to have experience working in a hospital setting. My main goal is to change careers from healthcare to IT. yea im crazy but the only thing i like about IT is surfing the net. i dont have a passion for it. My ultimate goal is to get a job at a hospital or maybe a university hospital where they pay for college. then transition into a healthcare career. (PA, nurse practitioner, nutrionist). not sure what aspect of healthcare. so many choices.

Find the shyttiest hospital nearby you and put in an application. Most of the poorer hospitals (i.e. your local county facility) are in desperate need of talent at EVERY position, including it. Work for 1-2 years at the county and establish experience and contacts. From there start applying to bigger, more established hospitals. There is a HUGE career in hospital IT. The hospital i work at has one quite a few brothers working there.

What do you do as a pA

You basically work as a extension of a doctor. You may round on a Dr's patients in the hospital, or see a few of the less sick patients in clinic. Take call for the Dr., just assistance in clinical duties primarily.

Work on establishing connections primarily. Go for the healthcare certificate if it is CHEAP and will educate you on information you don't already know. If the program is well established, its entirely possible the program may be able to place you in IT vacancies they may be privy to after your completion of their program.

Only you know if you think this program will be beneficial to you. But whatever you do, don't take out a bunch of money or a loan to obtain it.

doesnt sound like a difficult gig. i was looking into finishing up my lpn, work about 1-2 years then apply to PA schools that give certificates
