Have we thought about what the fallout's going to be if the Celtics don't get him? The talk for years was this masterplan Ainge had, funny enough there was never any tampering investigations for that since it involved a player on another team and all that. They passed on the chance to trade for PG to keep chips for Davis, didn't entertain trading for Kawhi, apparently the Kyrie trade was done in part to lure Davis since they're friends. Hayward snapped his leg and is a bad contract. Horford is on a player option for next season, he and Gordon take up $62.8 mil of the cap if he doesn't opt out. Morris is a FA and will look for money, while the Knicks just cleared over 70 mil in cap to target Kyrie and someone else.

They put everything into the Davis sweepstakes and might not get the chance to make an offer.

^^ this right here is why AD's a fukk boy in this situation. He's killing any and all leverage that NO might have had. Or trying to at least. If the Lakers give all that up for him, then they're dumb as fukk.
Lakers are desperate. Magic has no patience. They are willing to throw their future away for a single superstar. Lakers can get through this season with a playoffs berth without jeopardizing their depth but Tragic Magic doesn't want to wait.

Why would there have been a tampering investigation?

they can't because they're going to waste 2 whole years of lebron's prime if they have to wait until 2020 to get davis w/o giving up of the young core.

But what happens when Bron gets one star, he gets two and with two you can win titles

Problem was he was doing that in the east where it was his team and all these other teams he was scared of...

In the west...their are like...3 teams who are one peace away from being really good to elite...

Also looking at the numbers...seems like if they trade for AD now they don't have a max slot this summer...rather than sign the max guy this summer first then trade for AD then resign him to the max the year after that...now you trying to convince a 3rd guy to come their but not make the max...maybe you can maybe you can't...but it would be much easier if you knew you could flat out pay that third guy the max if you had to...

That money could be the difference between Klay in LA or Klay in GS...or Kawhi in clippers jersey instead of a lakers one...

Why would there have been a tampering investigation?

Why was there one for the trade demand? Because Paul used the media to announce it? That's not too much a difference than Boston pumping the media with stories about their plans for a player who's under contract for another 3 years, the only difference is one is on record and the other isn't and that's pretty insignificant in the grand scheme. If Boston isn't going to be slapped on the wrist for their bat signals then we don't need to be fining players and launching investigations at all. It's been proven in the past you can eat tampering charges because the league doesn't actually care so what's the point?

Allegedly AD is better than all the stars he’s played with though
