First of all if you trade for AD that 1st round pick is gonna fall and they won't get Zion/RJ. Second the purpose of trading for AD would be to create a contending team in NY, it'd make little sense to trade KP then and bank your hopes on landing KD/Kyrie/Kawhi in the summer. AD is leaving the Pels to compete for a championship, he has no reason to stay in NY if that doesn't seem likely.
They would have to "bank their hopes" or rely on signing free agents regardless... KP + AD ain't winning or competing for a chip by themselves

NYK would shut AD down for the season. He would play a handful of games and be out. trust me.

at the very best NYK has to overpay KP. KP and AD doesnt make NYK contenders. they have to keep their space clear. you are risking more by holding on to KP and hoping he a) becomes great and b) doesnt be injury prone.

you have to think that Kyrie has told AD that he wants to be in NYK if he can.

NBA Trade Machine - ESPN

We give em unprotected 1st this year and 2021

:manny:

Idk taking on Reggie and Leuer's shytty contracts with Drummond, who'd be an All-Star playing on a rebuilding team eating major cap all in exchange for Stanley J, Kennard, and a late 1st-rounder doesn't really make sense for the Pelicans

You're not giving up any major assets all in the hopes of potentially landing a star player in FA so you can keep AD around :gucci:And like you said, KP + AD isn't winning by themselves. How much cap space do you think the Knicks will have this summer to create a competitive team with them 2 having max contracts. Lee, THJ, Thomas, and Noah's stretch take up 44 million next year

I'd actually keep Leur looking at it now and give them Galloway instead.

Reggie and Leur/Langston all expire after next season. Pels aint signing NOBODY this summer..You see what these young boys can do, get a good pick of their own, ours, and another good pick next year THEN have hella cap space to go sign somebody (nobody still ain't going there)

We'd be saving them hella $ in the long run...That DOES make sense for a small market team who bout to lose their franchise player and won't be replacing him anytime soon sans getting lucky in the draft...Which this gives them 2 opportunity's this year to do just that...

But relatively speaking why would they take this deal over better and more flexible packages other teams can offer. With a player like AD, they can have their cake and eat it too and get immediate cap relief / coveted assets / good players

its possible the Pelicans lose leverage if they wait until the summer and Kyrie leaves the team. then you have a situation where AD tells Boston he wont sign longterm if they trade for him. also unlikely that Ainge would go all in for AD if he lost Kyrie. at that point the Pelicans cant tell other teams the Celtics have the best offer and AD can force himself to Lakers for a lesser package
