I figure that would be most likely and I'm saying that would be the wrong course of action. Anthem are aware of the perception of the TNA/Impact brand which is why they were so open to using GFW in the first place and frankly ROH are a completely different animal to GFW. ROH aren't hot right now but killing it completely and warehousing all their shyt would be a waste which is why I don't think WWE buying them would be the best course of action because that's exactly what they'd do.

If Anthem were to buy ROH then they should go down a different path and treat it as a merger of equals instead of being hokey and shytting on the company they're buying. The two promotions are coming together and bringing both of their histories and brands to the table. They have a shared history, they've been around as long as each other, massive overlaps in terms of talent and the guys who've held their championships and been at the forefront of their promotions.

Anthem may think that they've turned the perception of the Impact name around but the fact is that ROH inherently has a better built in rep with the market Anthem are trying to attract by buying AXS, the money spending American wrestling fan. Tacking on ROH and using the name strategically doesn't hurt what Anthem have done already because:

  1. They'd own the company anyway. It's their brand.
  2. The Impact name would still be displayed and used prominently.
There's no loss it would be an enhancement. Swallowing the company and doing bullshyt invasion storylines where guys the fans may like have to do jobs because of where they were previously employed isn't the wave this company should be riding in 2019.

If they merge, ultimately somebody's got to eventually do the job based on their previous employer just to unify titles. Otherwise, they'd have two sets of titles that would lose value due to their counterparts' existence.

Ideally, I would imagine that the old version of the WWE brand split would work best if they owned both companies. Keep them separate with limited interaction, and have a couple of big co-branded shows a year. It'd give them max roster flexibility too. For example, Jay Lethal could just go over to Impact for a while to take a break from ROH and actually have something to do.

That's fine if it's for the sake of merging the championships because that's a means to an end that's easily understandable. In an earlier post in this thread I laid out how a merged ROH/Impact could look and as you can see there is only one set of belts. My point is a full blown invasion e.g. WWE v the Alliance or NJPW v FMW where guys are pitted against each other and one group of guys has to be the heels and eventually put over the other group of guys en masse solely based on the fact that they worked for the company that was acquired is unnecessary. Plus I don't think viewers and event going fans are emotionally attached to Impact like that to make it work. Nobody's booing Jay Lethal (who you brought up) for example.

They should be treating it the same way any other regular company treats m&a and wax lyrical about what they're bringing in and how they're using it to grow. Two of the most storied wrestling promotions ever coming together to take on the world or some shyt like that. A "soft" corporate merger if you will rather than a wrestling merger. It should be treated as an event worth celebrating.

In terms of a brand split that only works if you attempt to treat them as equals and that would only work if you cut Impact down to a one hour show they don't have the numbers roster wise to sustain 2 weekly two hour shows plus the strain that would put on creative. Impact's core roster is small enough as it is (not counting the old guys) and not everybody signed to ROH right now would come over anyway so they'd have to sign a bunch of other guys to fill up slots and they're not going to get the best talent because there's an arms race out there and they're in third place (at best if you don't count NJPW). Pooling resources and consolidating is the more practical move :manny:.

well youre the one who was suggesting that they merge under the ROH name.

I was just saying that IF they merge, it would be under impact's name.

i don't think they would do a complete merger tho.

if they were to merge, they certainly wouldn't job out one promotion to another.

this isn't a case of a promotion buying out another. its moreso a case of a corporation buying out two different promotions and merging them together. I mean, unless the anthem guy is a suicidal stan of impact, he really has no horse in that race.
