I figure that would be most likely and I'm saying that would be the wrong course of action. Anthem are aware of the perception of the TNA/Impact brand which is why they were so open to using GFW in the first place and frankly ROH are a completely different animal to GFW. ROH aren't hot right now but killing it completely and warehousing all their shyt would be a waste which is why I don't think WWE buying them would be the best course of action because that's exactly what they'd do.
If Anthem were to buy ROH then they should go down a different path and treat it as a merger of equals instead of being hokey and shytting on the company they're buying. The two promotions are coming together and bringing both of their histories and brands to the table. They have a shared history, they've been around as long as each other, massive overlaps in terms of talent and the guys who've held their championships and been at the forefront of their promotions.
Anthem may think that they've turned the perception of the Impact name around but the fact is that ROH inherently has a better built in rep with the market Anthem are trying to attract by buying AXS, the money spending American wrestling fan. Tacking on ROH and using the name strategically doesn't hurt what Anthem have done already because:
There's no loss it would be an enhancement. Swallowing the company and doing bullshyt invasion storylines where guys the fans may like have to do jobs because of where they were previously employed isn't the wave this company should be riding in 2019.
- They'd own the company anyway. It's their brand.
- The Impact name would still be displayed and used prominently.
If they merge, ultimately somebody's got to eventually do the job based on their previous employer just to unify titles. Otherwise, they'd have two sets of titles that would lose value due to their counterparts' existence.
Ideally, I would imagine that the old version of the WWE brand split would work best if they owned both companies. Keep them separate with limited interaction, and have a couple of big co-branded shows a year. It'd give them max roster flexibility too. For example, Jay Lethal could just go over to Impact for a while to take a break from ROH and actually have something to do.
