Long as this doesn't in some way end up with TNA guys on njpw shows im good and I'm still not gon waste my time watching TNA :unimpressed:

How these Anthem nikkas buying AXS but can't keep AEW/WWE/ROH/MLW from taking they guys :mjtf:

Most people are leaving for AEW and WWE because of the money and the reach. I can't recall anyone who's gone to ROH or MLW lately.

This is big news for Impact but the demand/supply ratio for wrestling is going to be seriously uneven in a few months and Impact are probably going to suffer the most from viewer fatigue.

  • 3 hours of Raw on USA
  • 2 hours of NXT on USA
  • 2 hours of AEW on TNT
  • 2 hours of Smackdown on FOX
that's 9 hours of wrestling that's more desirable and more widely accessible than Impact. You add their 2 hours and there won't be that many people left who want to watch 11 hours of wrestling weekly, without taking into account PPVs and takeovers. Oh yeah NJPW is on the same network Impact is going to be on to so that's another hour of programming for the small segment of people who want to watch that much wrestling.

Aren't NXT and AEW on at the same time?

They are but that's not going to stop people from watching one and DVRing the other especially because there's a large overlap between the people most likely to watch the two shows. People are still going to be consuming both.

One day after Anthem Media took over controlling interest in AXS TV, the cable network's Dallas office was shut down.

Adam Swift, who was hugely responsible for bringing pro wrestling to the network, dating back to Ring of Honor on HDNet, is departing this week:

"This is my last week at AXS TV after 11 amazing years. Proud of all that we accomplished, blessed to have worked with so many wonderful people, and excited for the next adventure." he tweeted out.

With the entire Dallas office shut down, a major question to look at is who will be handing production of the weekly New Japan series going forward.

The brutal reality of a corporate takeover.

Anthem going to fukk around & send NJPW into that AEW partnership.

youre saying this under the impression that impact viewers automatically watch everything, which isn't true.

and you forgot to add WOW.

I mean lets keep it a buck:patrice:

AXS is pretty much a Spike TV's underachieving brother. Everything on that channel consists of the following:

  • NJPW reruns
  • Music docs for dad bands
  • MMA with 2 dollar fighters fighting for a 6 inch sub
Better than the redneck station they were on but still

im actually jealous of AXS TV's lineup.
if only we had a station like that for black music.
they have a lot of great concepts for their music shows. its just not for me. altho, on occasions they will look out. like when they had that show on run dmc.

I don't really see the correlation between AXS & Spike, aside from wrestling & MMA.

whatever happened to spike anyway? its like they became forgotten when TNA left, and now its the paramount channel.

and you forgot to add WOW.

  1. Where did you hear that? If it's true that would actually be a really good look. With WWE securing those bags from USA and FOX and AEW getting on TNT the world doesn't need a bunch of middling promotions and these guys are going to have to build scale. Impact and ROH complete each other in strange ways.
    1. Impact are good at getting the most out of their characters booking wise.
    2. ROH can't do that for shyt.
    3. Impact's roster is threadbare.
    4. ROH has bodies. Guys you can build with and guys you can use to eat pins to build the other guys up.
    5. Bringing together the Impact and ROH libraries too.
  2. No, no I didn't. The reasons Anthem bought AXS are to get a stronger foothold in the American market and to put Impact in front of more eyes in order to grow viewership. The people who already watch Impact are going to watch it regardless, having so much wrestling on TV may hurt their chances of getting new viewers because odds are they're going to have to tap into the rest of the wrestling viewership market in order to grow. You're not going to get a lot of new viewers who like wrestling but only want to watch Impact.
  3. I didn't forget shyt  women's wrestling is a niche within a niche.

  • It's true and it's also why you don't need both of those companies:manny:.
  • In terms of character development Impact is light years ahead of ROH and truthfully WWE as well.
  • What they did with Cherry Bomb/Allie is an example of building a character from scratch and taking that audience and character on a journey and now she's running with what was built at Impact.
  • Derrick Bateman to EC3 was fantastic work all around.
  • EYFBO were cool and all but they wouldn't have had the juice they have now if Impact didn't turn them into LAX.
  • Even with established guys like Eddie Edwards they took him from being one of those I'm a real wrestler mark types and gave him a complete 180 character wise and all it took was a botch by Callihan and they ran with it and he adds a different wrinkle to the show beyond "wrestling".
  • Impact's problem is that it doesn't necessarily have the shiny attractions other places have.
  • They're the island of misfit toys and the guys running the place are making the most of it.
  • From 2016 onwards (actually probably since they got kicked off Spike if we're being honest) if you gave them the Elite and the NJPW partnership they would have done more with the guys and gone further than ROH.
  • Kenny King is still the same dude and saying roughly the same things he was saying in 2012.

nah, im not saying that theyre gonna have viewers that only watch impact.
but your post made it sound like theyre gonna have to eat the scraps with whoever is still willing to watch wrestling after all the other shows. and that's simply not true.
if youre an avid viewer of impact, chances are youre going to find the WWE style to be boring. youre definitely not watching 3 hours of raw, unless youre a die-hard wrestling fan who watches everything from top-to-bottom.
I usually just watch the highlight shows for the WWE and double back to watch certain things in full. I'm sure the NXT show is gonna be great now that its on USA tho.

and yea, if anthem buys ROH, they definitely have to merge honor club & impact plus together.
i'd rather that they not completely merge the companies tho. keep them separate but under the same ownership. do some supercards, and even some trading. but i'd hate to see one of them go. they've both been around since 2002.
