This was absolute fire. could be my favorite of the year. THIS is what I want movies to look like. All the characters and events felt real and realistic. The acting was excellent. The wife/mom in the end almost stole the show, from a very talented group. Got the strippers right for sure. The three act structure was perfect, maybe the 2nd act could have been cut by 10 minutes, but it was also laugh out loud funny, frequently. Reminded of course of Uncut Gems, and the only vaguely competent, vaguely menacing goons.

so without a serf serving intro, I caught the whole "twist" in the first shot, just the way those two looked at each other, saw it in that instant, it was all in that one shot -maybe because I know that moment well - and I followed it the entire way, each little interaction. That was a thrilling movie to watch.
:ohhh: now I have to a re-watch

I was recently looking for a movie to watch and saw this title on the trending menu of my streaming service. I read the description and kept it pushing. I come on here and see there's a thread. Tuh. Let me see what they talking about. I never heard of this Mikey chick, the dude who wrote/directed(?) it and I've definitely never seen any of his films. If the lead was in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I'm gonna assume she was 1 of the crazy chicks at the end Brad Pitt had to fukk up? I have never seen that movie from start to finish btw. Reading these comments got me curious to watch this.....but I'm black. Will I enjoy this? Y'all raving like these ppl household names and I've never heard of none of em. I'm not artsy, but may be more artsy than most in my circle. This shyt seems artsy. Can a black man enjoy this film? I aint see shyt relatable in the trailer.

It's artsy , but it appeals to people who like mainstream popcorn movies.

It's not a boring movie
It's an exciting movie in a different kind of way.
I don't want to spoil the movie that's why I'm keeping my review vague

Edit: if you're shallow the lead actress has plenty of topless scenes to get you through the movie :yeshrug:

It made the movie that much better of an experience, following that one shot all the way to the ending one was really rewarding. Each little building of tension and chemistry. but, yeah, right from the first time they are on screen together, I caught it. That's really good acting, and directing.

Following and contrasting the kind of childishness of Vanya, and his body language, his posture, with the other characters and with Ani's, it's all very well foreshadowed. Ani's masculinity. His old school masculinity. When he had the scarf. And she's like "what are you going to gag me again!? LOL

The movie had a lot funny quotes, he's a good writer, he writes a very human, very natural language in the script. I was laughing the whole time, and not one person in the theater laughed. When the goons are just so confused, and the one goon keeps apologizing and throwing up and complaining. oh bro she's too crazy, oh my head hurts bro. When he threw up I was cracking up. You got a ticket?! ohh bro I fell asleep.

The fixer character who is slowly in over his head. Toros, also hilarious. I know guys like that.

what I also really liked, what I love abut the best movies is that sense of unpredictability, where is this going? I had no idea it was going to be structured like that. I was kinda of what the fukk when Vanya disappeared for the middle act. It kept some tension, and kept a deep sense of chaos and manic -nesss, spiraling out of control.

People are going to compare this to Uncut Gems, but it has more in common with Parasite as far as the unpredictably of the story

Yeah caught this last monday. Enjoyed it. Definitely wasn't expecting that ending..
Well was...just not like that. Huge tonal shift right there and it makes sense.

Definitely was thinking about Uncut Gems while watching it. Except Ani ain't a scumbag

Only thing bad I'll say about it is.. I think it could have cut 10mins off, started feeling the run time at the end.

Saw it earlier today at the theater. One of my favorites of the year so far. I think the scene where the two henchmen show up at Ivan's crib and shyt really starts popping off IA one of the most entertaining scenes of the year.
