That solo album talk for the sake of a solo album talk will by far be the dumbest argument ever. Why? Nobody that is held in high esteem is highly regarded simply because they proved to the world that they could create a solo album.

They are held in high regard because they made music that resonated at a high level with enough people (including the media) that they were considered elite. Point blank, period. Nothing more, nothing less.

People consider Jadakiss a Top MC , but nobody's calling the solo albums classics. It's because of his verses on mixtapes and features. People consider Prodigy elite. You won't see anybody putting his solos in the conversation with albums that are normally considered classic. When people bring up his music or why he's elite, it'll be his verses from Infamous, Hell On Earth, and Murda Muzik that gets brought up.

Man I don't need another Outkast album. nikkas just need one solo Andre rap album. That's it. It's like this nikkas was scared to rap alone or some shyt.

Big Boi gave us 3 solo albums. Why couldn't Andre do it?

This is why:

everyone can rap but let's say gift, suppose if
I use my gift of gab to boast and brag in every rhyme I (Wailin')
Compose, won't y'all get sick of that, 'cause I know I do when I hear those
Flows that ain't hip-hop, you find that shyt in the gift shop (Wailin')---- Andre 3000, "Wailin"

This ol' sucka MC stepped up to me
Challenged André to a battle and I stood there patiently
As he spit and stumbled over cliches, so called freestyling
Whole purpose just to make me feel low, I guess you wilding
I say, "Look, boy, I ain't for that fukk shyt—so fukk this"
"Let me explain 'only child' style so you don't dis'"
I grew up to myself not round no park bench
Just a nikka busting flows off in apartments---- Andre 3000, "Two Dope Boyz"

Seems like an excuse more than anything.

How are verses from 1996 an excuse?

Again, Andre was telling us what it was back then.
He's telling us he doesn't like to battle rap. He's telling us that he learned how to rap on his own, his own way. That fine and cool and it's the reason we want a solo album from him. He has a unique flow, voice, and perspective. It's just disappointing that he refuses to create an album showing that by himself. No one is asking him to diss anyone, we just want a solo album spitting in the same manner that he does on features and how the Outkast albums.

He saying he doesn't like to boast and brag in his raps, which is isn't just limited to dissing someone, but basically bragging about how great you are. From the lyrics, he's saying that bores him. From an MC perspective, the bragging element is a huge part of being an MC.

It also doesn't shock me that Big Boi has solo albums where Andre doesn't. Big Boi had more solo joints than Andre 3000 on the OutKast albums. It's done so seamlessly that Andre isn't really missed where we're wishing he rhymed on "Slump", "Decatur Psalm", or "West Savannah" or "Snappin & Trappin". Andre only had "?".

The discourse around Andre 3000 is always so annoying to me.

For people who were fans of OutKast, his run with SouthernPlayalisticadillacMuzik, Atliens, Aquemini and Stankonia was more than enough to put him in GOAT category in addition to his guest verses on Goodie Mobb and Dungeon Family records.

He doesn’t need to drop a solo album to prove that he’s worthy of being in people’s top 10s. The truth is most northeastern rap fans slept on Andre and OutKast until he started popping up on remixes for hit singles in 2005 and crushing them. I saw the shift in real time from north eastern rap fans…….cause I used to get laughed out of rap convos in Philly when I would tell friends in 1998 that Andre Benjamin was better than their east coast favorites.

All that “he needs a solo talk” is just exposing people who slept on him the first 11 years of his career and never were fans in the first place until he started popping up on remixes, which was really just extra credit after a great career. If you weren’t up on it or the first four Outkast albums weren’t for you, just say that.

Does anyone actually care or needed to hear that?

We already knew that we weren’t getting an album.

But that wouldn't stop him from dropping another album. Bruh, at the end of the day, nikkas just want more rhymes from him. That's it. What he decides to talk about is his choice.

It’s not for the sake of it at all. As OutKast he’s a part of classics. You said it yourself they are held in high regard. It was a group thing. I can’t see taking half the group and breaking it off then trying to compare them to individual artist who if they put out weak solo albums or fell off that’s held against them.

The bar his peers have to clear is higher than him. As a listener of rap you should know how difficult it is to create a classic solo album.

Add to that that the man openly admitted part of the reason he hasn’t put out a solo album is because it would never live up to the lofty expectations and I just don’t see it. Greatness is more than raw talent. Greatness it putting it all together for a complete package.

His talent is undeniably but Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill were talented. Does that make them top 5 player over people who have way more a body of work to judge?

Well, if we use a basketball analogy, we are essentially breaking up a team to bestow greatness upon one player. Jordan doesn't have 6 rings without the bulls. His scoring average isn't what it is without the assists to put him in position to score those points. Jordan was innthe league less time than, say Lebron James or a predecessor like Bill Russell. Jordan is considered GOAT against players with more "bodies of work". We essentially judge him off the two three peats.

Being a great individual artist is more than just being dope on group albums and features. Nas is a GOAT level rapper not just because he has skills but he’s put together classic albums himself and has a 30 year record of putting together amazing albums. There’s a few duds in there but how are we taking someone that’s done that and cutting out a member of a group and putting them in the same category? We don’t say Nas as a group is a top 5 group do we? He’s not that and Andre 3000 isn’t an individual rapper he’s just a group member.

Jadakiss is talented as hell but people would a lot of fans would say he’s not top 5 of all time and many of them would cite his body of work as why. Is Jadakiss better than Nas or Jay-Z?

Y’all elevated 3000 and put him on a pedestal and his response to that pressure was to just never put out a solo rap album. When he sings or plays his flute he can just be him and it doesn’t come with these GOAT level expectations and he can be comfortable making art.

He’s said as much yet y’all still try to push him somewhere he doesn’t seem interested in being.

“Any little thing I put out, it’s instantly attacked, not in a good or bad way,” he said. “People nitpick it with a fine-tooth comb. ‘Oh, he said that word!’

“And that’s not a great place to create from and it makes you draw back. Maybe I don’t have the confidence that I want, or the space to experiment like I used too.”

Well, people, myself, included rank Andre 3000 because the verses we've heard from him resonate. Outside of OutKast, he went on a feature run that were their own moments. He impacted culture with those verses. Whether he's top 5 or not or Top 10 or bottom 3 is a matter of OPINION. You don't think he's Top 5 and I'm sure you can give reasons why. Andre 3000, tome, is one of the greatest rappers O ever heard and that's no slight to Big or any rapper with a solo catalog. His verses, the words, the delivery, the flows, and the meaning resonated with moreso than near any rapper I ever heard. My top 5:

1. Nas
2. Pac
3. Andre 3000
4. Notorious B.I.G.
5. Scarface

Big Boi is in my Top 10.
