The keys and kick drum on "Room In Here" and Anderson's harmonizing
shyt is just...heat rocks.
Could've done without Game's verse, it wasn't bad but I don't know if it added to much
to the song overall.
"Room In Here", "The Bird", "The Waters", "Heart Don't Stand A Chance" etc.
Just when you think this dude is gonna let up, he throws another haymaker.
Great album.
I think TPAB clearly borrows from The Ummah and that whole Neo-Soul movement but it also
has it's own separate identity. On top of that Anderson is also clearly heavily influenced by Hip-Hop and Neo-Soul.
From sampling records from Bob James' album "One" to using Dilla-esque beat breaks/drum
patterns, hell "Malibu" is pretty much a Neo-Soul album. and it's a well done one at that.
Personally I think "jacking" is putting it wrong because Kendrick much like Anderson is from cali like us.
So to me it's only natural that they'd be influenced by the beat scene on the fresh coast.
And I agree with
@GoldenGlove the attitudes on both of these albums run counter to each other.
TPAB is a lot more "heavy" than this album. This album is equally well crafted IMO but the mood is
considerably livelier even though it does have some moody aspects to it.
No, it doesn't.
Anderson .Paak hasn't recorded a single Bebop record.
"For free ?" is what you hear on a Bud Powell or Coltrane record.
