kendrick completely jacked that neo soul / underground l.a. sound and now all the k dot stans are saying this sounds like tpab :mindblown:

see, thats one of the reasons i hate when a popular rapper borrows sounds from sub genres i fukk wit....the fans never give proper due.

oh and this malibu >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> tpab EASILY btw. EASILY
Terrace Martin specifically said they were influenced by D'Angelo's last album. It's no secret.

This and people are acting like Kendrick never had jazz influence on his previous works.

It's ridiculous to think Anderson took this from TPAB or that Kendrick took something from him.

Two dope artists from the same city that worked with some of the same people.

GOT DAMN :damn:

This album..is....fukk
I'm running this back multiple times, you know it's hot when I put like three other albums
on the phone and they're playing the back seat.

R&B isn't dead....it just took a break on the national stage.

You realize that this dude has been putting out music before TPAB right? Just because you're just now hearing about him doesn't mean he hasn't been creating music in this same vein for a while now. And he's more of a singer than a rapper, so I honestly do not understand how people are coming up with Kendrick Lamar comparisons.

Was Venice influenced by TPAB too? That released in 2014
:jbhmm:
he vocally sounds like Kendrick. thats not saying he's biting him or trying to be like him. they both have a gruff and understated voice. they sound like they need to rub some Vicks Vapor Rub on their chest or something.

nikka sounds like if Kendrick took singing lessons...thats not a diss to either one of them. they are both great at what they do.

The keys and kick drum on "Room In Here" and Anderson's harmonizing :damn:
shyt is just...heat rocks. :whoo:
Could've done without Game's verse, it wasn't bad but I don't know if it added to much
to the song overall.

"Room In Here", "The Bird", "The Waters", "Heart Don't Stand A Chance" etc.
Just when you think this dude is gonna let up, he throws another haymaker.
Great album.

I think TPAB clearly borrows from The Ummah and that whole Neo-Soul movement but it also
has it's own separate identity. On top of that Anderson is also clearly heavily influenced by Hip-Hop and Neo-Soul.
From sampling records from Bob James' album "One" to using Dilla-esque beat breaks/drum
patterns, hell "Malibu" is pretty much a Neo-Soul album. and it's a well done one at that.
Personally I think "jacking" is putting it wrong because Kendrick much like Anderson is from cali like us.
So to me it's only natural that they'd be influenced by the beat scene on the fresh coast.

And I agree with @GoldenGlove the attitudes on both of these albums run counter to each other.
TPAB is a lot more "heavy" than this album. This album is equally well crafted IMO but the mood is
considerably livelier even though it does have some moody aspects to it.

exactly what i thought. For free sounds like it could be an anderson paak song
:dead:
No, it doesn't.
Anderson .Paak hasn't recorded a single Bebop record.
"For free ?" is what you hear on a Bud Powell or Coltrane record.
