you're obviously not listening to the OP then. he isnt mad at you for trying to own your own business. he's saying but when you do. and when you start hiring. DO NOT pay people ridiculously low wages that they cant survive off of. dont be paid in full while your workers are in trailer parks. if the business does well. everyone should benefit a little bit. of course you should benefit the most. but dont forget about those working for you. they are just as important as you are. the moment you start thinking YOu da ishh is the moment you sound and act like these business owners the OP was talking about.Education is a better alternative. Raising the minimum wage is a better alternative. Some of these small businesses need to go away and die is a better alternative.
Then again, its not the business itself, its the nikkas running it. I use to work at another airport parking facility. The bus drivers, valet and cashiers all made between $8 and $10 an hour tops. The supervisors made $13 starting out and everyone got a bullshyt 5 percent pay increase

You make good points. But I've worked for some pretty shytty big companies too. I dont think large multi-national corporations are the answer. The amount of power they have over our politicians, resources, and economy gives them too much power. I mean, it's large corporations that usually dictate our governments policies.
This consolidates wealth into the hands of a few, not to mention they make people more expendable. (there's 1000 peons ready to take your job) I think the capitalism the founding fathers had in mind was something completely different. People owning their own businesses is what this country was built on.
Dont get me wrong they serve their purpose, especially when it comes to production, and the abiliies to produce "rare" items. Among other services, but I think we need a better balance, more protections for small businesses. Make it easier for the average American to start, and successfully operate a small business.

thats a half truth. a see a ton of so called black owned business in my area. and they aint prospering like that. if you only knew how many black people get businesses just to say "i got a business." if you ever realized how terribly ran a lot of black businesses are. then you would understand. its not just SMALL BUSINESSES. its a certain KIND of small business. thats what the OP is talking about.

Your complaints are telling me what is wrong with small business, it's telling me what's wrong with you.
You are the only difference between being an owner and a worker, and your attitude towards life is what makes you a worker. Not one thing you said tells us that small business is oppressing you or this economy.
If you you honestly work twice as hard for less pay, your an idiot that deserves to be a worker. If you work that hard, start a small business and hire someone that doesn't work as hard and pay him to be miserable in his own decisions.

I think most of you are missing my original point. I had a corporate gig and got laid off during the financial crisis.. Recognizing the game had changed I said fukk it, bought a cargo van, formed an LLC copped an EIN and started contracting courier gigs for different transportation companies. I never finished school so I've decided to go back and get my degree in accounting and then my CPA. About to turn 35 and will finally get my degree at 37 and my CPA hopefully by the time I'm 40. And once I get it i'm starting my own practice. I do taxes and have my tax preparer ID so I cake up during tax season.
THe thing is people keep saying small businesses is the life line of this country, well I say, that's not saying much if you look at the quality of life. Most Americans are slaves to punching a clock and working long hours to support a lifestyle they can't sustain. A lot of small businesses can't pay a livable wage which is sad. I'm just calling it as I see it. A lot don't even offer benefits and the ones that do suck.
Some gigs, the hours are so out of wack that you can't work a second one to compensate for the bullshyt one you already got.

what is someone worth? There is no intrinsic value to any occupation. If tomorrow everyone was a doctor, then doctor's would make significantly less than they would now-- maybe even minimum wage.
Supply and demand determines someone's worth, not your personal assessment of social justice.
If you feel people are being paid enough, then feel free to pay them 200% tips regardless of service. Next time you're at a hotel, Leave money on the bed for the maid. I bet you don't even tip to begin with. It's easy judge people until you're the one paying people.
