I am educated on how the system works. Capitalism and Credit or in other words, compete to obtain things we cannot readily afford without borrowing. Most americans work to pay back what they owe, be it student loans, credit cards, car note, house note, medical bills etc. Then you got jobs that don't pay shyt. You work twice as hard for little to no $$$. Just enough to get you to the next pay check, once you add in food and other basic shyt.. you're sol on savings. The system as you like to call it is rigged.

Its not rigged, we are handicapping ourselves. We need to save more and stop spending every red cent we make on nonsense. Some people have an iPhone with a $1,200 a year 4G plan, high speed internet/cable @ $840/year, eat out 2-3 times per week ($5 a meal at McDonalds) @ $720/year, it be the little things that add up fast.

But our economy is based on consumption. That's why we are referred to as consumers breh. If everyone started being responsible the economy would suffer. Doing more with less is bad in America. Gotta spend spend spend to keep it moving. And shiiiit. You need credit. Jobs do credit checks for crying out loud.

You're wrong but keep thinking that.

EVF does have in point the top heavy aspect of Small business salaries. But that is or has become the norm in most companies. The gap between wages for the blue collar and Management/white collar positions has widened TREMENDOUSLY. That is one of the biggest issues with wages period in this country.

Economic growth is based on production, even though the GDP & GNP looks so good. Such a small percentage of the U.S. population controls the total wealth, most people are struggling. We are handicapping ourselves by not making better use of our money.

Consumer confidence which drives market forces (rule#1 market forces are irrational). People saving money will increase their sense of well being and this will shift the market to becoming more efficient. The market crashed because it was very inefficient, that's why an educated citizen > a high school drop out buying a $415k house with a sub prime mortgage. We can't be ranked at the bottom in science and math, and expect to keep up with the rest of the world.

You are wrong here very wrong, this started off as a thread on small business and you made it race based talking about "we" spend money on such and such. Having a iphone or and having internet is important, would you rather we got back to landlines as service? No internet but using the library for services? I worked at a small business before where we catered to richer clients, and that stuffed is shoved in your face daily, my problem was this owner paid guys in the same positions way more than others, there was no balance, just favoritism. We need the internet to look for better jobs, we need the the tools to compete, this is a high tech world now, we need to be right up to date or get left back. You talking about saving money and not spending it on on stupid things would have made more sense. Investing in education and learning new skills is what counts. Saving money and working at a shytty place will get you no where at all, when you get laid off or hurt , your saving goes fast, i saw this first hand, a guy i worked with said he was cutting his cell off and his internet:why:, i said how you going to contact employers and how will they reach you, he has not had a steady job in 2 years, just lost his last 1, now so broke he moving back to the islands to live with his mom, did i mention he is 59 with a wife who gave up on him, she gets everything because she is smarter than him. If you have goals go for them, don't sit back and think it will work out those days are over.

When I saw "we", I'm talking about Americans. Also, I have a prepaid cell phone, $14/month AT&T DSL internet, and no cable (people should get netflix, I stream most of my shows).

People need to start controlling their destiny and stop trusting those who are in power.

As far as small businesses go, I'm neutral. The crooked politicians and greedy businessmen don't care about anyone but themselves.

Again how do we get credit if not for cellphone service and internet, how do you suggest people build up their credit? If people in these small businesses have direct deposit i would be shocked, i say going overboard buying stuff you really do not need is a problem, but the problem is you only live once, if that is not motivation to get all out of life there is it is a problem, i look at these goods as a goal to push farther and try to do more. Again when i worked at the old place, the managers used to tell people who worked there that brokers on wall street who got laid off worked at Wendys and burger king because they could not get any other work and that we should be happy working there, i said to him, you mean to tell me that educated brokers in banking are doing this instead of working in other firms or moving to other places where they can get paid better, i said how stupid do you think the workers here are? If rent is 3k a month working in a burger joint will not help you make ends meet. Listen having a taste for the better things in life is what drives the economy.

Small businesses is just a label for a business that employs 1 to 20 employees. With that said, there are a lot of small businesses where the owner is the only employee. He or she is making it on their own, like a contractor, plumber, consultant, accountant, caterer, car washer, day care person, etc.

The truth is that consumer spending does not account for 70 percent of economic activity and is not the mainstay of the U. S. economy. Investment is! Business spending on capital goods, new technology, entrepreneurship, and productivity are more significant than consumer spending in sustaining the economy and a higher standard of living. In the business cycle, production and investment lead the economy into and out of a recession; retail demand is the most stable component of economic activity.

I'm anti-establishment, that's why I tell people to take control of their destiny. Controlling your economic future is a big part of that, that's why people shouldn't be so nonchalant about money.

Did not say be nonchalant about money, i said people should always hunger for more, the guy working in burger king knows his plot in life is limited and the things he wants are out of reach, you have to start somewhere and if having internet and iphone are goals, go for it, then the next step and so far, but denying yourself will make you complacent and you will say hey i am saving money by not getting this or that, and when you really need something you are still short, staying in place is a waste of your life, hunger for education and the better things in life propel this society. I know it is possible to live okay on bum salaries if you have to, but not here in NYC, there are too many people who want to live here and playing the background will get you hurt. Look at the basic average rent here is almost 3500 in Manhattan and they rest of the areas are average 950 per month, not counting transportation and food, so the only way i see it is too push on to make it, my mom told me it was possible to survive on less than 300 per week here, she is totally out of touch with reality.
