Who is Afonjas?

I doubt it

Afonja was a Yoruba general who betrayed the Oyo Empire and allowed the Fulanis to capture the city of Ilorin. His action sped up the disintegration of Oyo and the sale of millions of Yoruba into slavery through the subsequent Yoruba Civil Wars.

When I say ‘afonja’, I’m calling Yorubas cowards but it’s in jest

What I will say is that don’t assume that just because someone lives on the continent that they know anything. Just like how the average American doesn’t know shyt about the USA is the same with our African brother and sisters. To you, all the different tribes are fascinating because you have had your connection severed but many of them take it for granted since they were born in it so they don’t take the time to explore it. I as a Black American had to learn to stop seeing continental Africans as some beaconof African wisdom...half of them just as deaf and blind as Black Americans.

Any updates with your African relative?

She actually never got back to me. But, I have spoken to my distance relative from Ghana from the "Ga" tribe.

I asked: Did you ever hear any family folklore or stories of family being taken, sold or kidnapped into slavery?

He responded: Not really. We hardly talk about such issues because of the pain that Africans is the diaspora went through.

I haven't responded since. I need too - but I just don't understand how they don't talk about their relatives and loved ones that were taken from them. But, oh well....

I can see why you are AA gang all the way. Africans and AA need have an open discussion with each other to clear up the issues we have with each other. We're not going anywhere if we don't sit down and build with each other.

I'll give you props for trying. :salute:
