Cant fidn the full episode to fully gauge the discussion

but based on the clips in the OP, chomsky regurgitates what many white liberals think about when it comes to what the Democratic party is supposed to fight for.

The environment, lgbtq rights, pro-choice options. It usually avoids racial and classist topics as those are seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Remember again that every powerful institution in this country is built for whites. Back then and now. And it takes a long time to re-program this system to even consider us as more than savages.

Chomsky is a sheepdog, and nobody ever listens to anything he has to say til it’s time to herd said sheep. 70+ years of the same losing, race to the bottom strategy get's us what? Trump levels of failure....

Had we put a stop to the bullshyt before Noam became a senior citizen, we could have gone up against a greater evil that had much less to work with than Trump has been left with by his 'lesser' evil, supposedly harm reducing predecessors. Are we supposed to do this for 70 more years?

He's talking about "what about your grandchildren?" when most people in this generation have opted out of having kids all together because they DON'T SEE A fukkING FUTURE. How do you convince people to think about their hypothetical grand children when they can't afford a home to have any children first, or house the ones they do have without having to barely scrape by.

The problem with many ppl (and this view) today is that everyone thinks they are entitled to live in and/or benefit from changes that must be fought for today. You need to be OK with the idea that you may not actually see the other side. shyt that has been perpetuated for hundreds of years will not be overturned in a matter of years or even decades. BTW, I'm not judging if you can't because that takes a lot of emotional/mental strength and maturity - something that is in short supply nowadays.

The important thing is to go forward. I think the progressive left has made huge strides in a very short period of time. It is actually in its ascendancy - but the biggest hurdles are unfair/unrealistic expectations that evolve into apathy and the lack of viable national candidates. Progressives are winning many state/local elections (very important) and these folks are developing national followings - but most are too young to be seen credibly as potential presidential candidates. That too will change at some point.

What's the excuse going to be in 2023 when dems have no Trump fascist to face?

Oh they'll be one, they'll make sure of it.

They blame Trump on 'protest voters' yet they purposely pushed for him or anyone else on the fringe to become the nominee. If they had run against a more clean cut, reasonably racist Bush/Regan era republican, they wouldn't come off like the 'greater' evil. So do what you feel you gotta do on election night. But understand this is a perpetual game of good cop/bad cop. Even people voting for Biden while pointing that out are getting chastised because for the DNC and their party cultists, this is about their 'team' winning, not the American people.

I'm perfectly okay with the notion that the things I fight for today are not things I may live to see come about. What takes emotional/mental strength and bravery is seeing what needs to be done, knowing even people who agree with you are afraid to follow you and going first anyway, somebody has to set the tone. Participating in this race to the bottom when you know better is setting the tone for the fascistic neo-liberalism that we are having to deal with from both sides.

HOW A THIRD PARTY HELPED TO ABOLISH SLAVERY
The Important Role of US Third Parties

People hate 'leftists' but refuse to acknowledge just how much work was put in by people who drew a fukking hard line on human rights issues and stood their ground. Economic freedom, environmental protections and still...proper acknowledgement and reparations for slavery are the issues of our day that we are going to HAVE to draw a fukking line on..I'm ready, and it ain't just because I feel entitled to all that I feel is needed to make the people of this country whole.

There was quite a bit of this:

The monitoring of every mosque in America, the kidnapping of activists, the reintroduction of travel restrictions, mass death, racist gaslighting disguised as religious conservatism, secret police, the defunding of education and arts programs, deportations and internment camps all existed at that time - not to mention the US was actively flouting every international treaty preventing asymmetrical warfare - killing literally hundreds of thousands of people, and reintroducing military imperialism in Africa and the Middle East.

We were already torturing - and the literal legal structure used to justify all of it came from Carl Schmitt the Nazi legal academic - who John Yoo was a fan of.

The media suppression of national jail and prison strikes, the continued killings of Black men and women in poverty, the corruption that undermined the Black community's wealth, the mass graves that were found in Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico - this all happened in the Bush years.

It was 15-20 years ago so a lot of people have forgotten - but it was a horrible, horrible time.

U got any articles that i can read on this?

Definitely - Mass graves of unidentified migrants found in South Texas
Migrant Mass Graves in South Texas May Violate Law

These are the more recent finds - but at the same time, there were DHS and ICE officers being cited for years of bad practices like putting poisoned water at checkpoints, destroying food and rations left by activists and human rights advocates, and several other probes at the time.

This may have largely been during the Obama Admin - I'll look for the Bush Era specific stuff
