American Gangster is lyrically better than any other Jay album or any Nas album

Black Album and AG were always my favourite Jay albums. I dont agree with OPs assessment though because we'll definitely not agree on what lines are doper than others for whatever reason. I definitely believe Nas is a better MC but Jay might have a better flow and entendres and maybe humour? I would argue that Godson was lyrically better. You would disagree and I dont have the time to go back and forth on this.

@Piffery You have a valid argument breh. But see, where you fukked up is when you pitted him against Nas and distracted listeners from the focal point of your message. Now half of them will automatically dismiss what you're saying because of the Nas comparison, despite the validity of some of your claims.

Its one of his best albums

But lyrically its not fukking with Reasonable Doubt, It Was Written, Illmatic, Blueprint or perhaps even Untitled (content wise)
American Gangster is head, shoulders, knees, and toes above The Blueprint lyrically speaking. It just doesn't have the iconic status of that album.

American Gangster is lyrical as hell and OP makes good points

but still I'd put Reasonable Doubt, The Dynasty and In My Lifetime above it lyrically for sure

Black Album is up there but comparison is neither here nor there with AG, same-ish level

God's Son is in no way better than AG, I don't care what you're gauging.

I know I'm being egregious, but I think Nas is a good benchmark for me to really express how nice I think Jay is.
I'm listening to American Gangster right now and I'm still catching stuff.

Untitled might be the most overrated album of the last 5 years. People need to stop with that.

Untitled is garbage bar Testify.

Or yanno, people might be liking it cause they appreciate the lyrical content. The beats could be better but lryically and content wise tracks like Cant Stop Us Now, Slave and the Master, Fried Chicken and Y'all my nikkas were pretty great
Key thing is subject matter and how you lrycially approach it. You can do entendres or you can speak about concepts, depends on what you're looking for. Thats why I said content wise.

I'm really struggling to understand how AG is better than RD. :patrice:
@Piffery used the term "lyrically" in the title but then explained in the OP that it had better rapping in virtually every aspect.
I'm dumbfounded :martin:

So we gonna gloss over the fact Young Chris wrote most of AG?

op is like 19 years old, worships cacs and has no black friends

his opinion on rap (anything really) should be treated with extreme scrutiny
Why do the posters who hate me have to make up and editorialize stuff just to hate on me?
Nothing I've ever said on this site would indicate me not having any black friends, any time the subject of race and friends came up I mentioned that I have friends of every race, but that (one of my) my best friends is Hispanic, the other is also Hispanic, the other hmong, the other Guamanian(?) and white, and the other black and white mixed.
Nothing I've said remotely indicates I worship whites or any race either.
And I'm sorry, I didn't know being nineteen prevents me from being able to read rap lyrics.

I'm not saying that it's better, but that it's more consistent song to song and that in each aspect of rapping skill, Jay is clearly improved on it.
