smart dumb nikkas of the coli strike again

Yes. Yes, you did.

  1. Virginia isn't NY. Those are two different states. :snoop:
  2. None of your post or even in the link points to 2.5B from NY, NYC, or Virginia. If anything the cash grants between the 3 total up to 978M. And they're given over time not all at once.
  3. The incentives are tax breaks and cash grants given over a period of 10 to 25 years. Most, if not all, of those tax breaks existed long before Amazon made plans to move to NY/NYC.

There are real concerns about quality of life, gentrification, rising costs, opportunity for locals, and potential discrimination. My concerns, in terms of money, are about when that ROI will happen. Another question is why Amazon needed this deal and not Google (ie. in NY/NYC)? But this whole "Amazon got tax breaks and so the rapture is coming" is being blown out-of-proportion. If anything, all the 6C6F brehs and brehettes should be reading as many articles as possible to see what's available and taking advantage of it. They're literally telling exposing all the available tax breaks a business can get.

something is fishy here...amazon is hiding something cause they gave up WAY too easily.
I initially thought the same as well, but being from NYC and a union member I can tell you first hand NYC would not have been a friendly place for the type of labor Amazon seems so committed to practicing. There would be rallies held there everyday until they unionized their workers and gave them better conditions. It would have been a very ugly fight for them. They knew that once they conceded, it would set a precedent they wouldn't like, so them pulling out makes perfect sense.

As a NYer soon leaving this state I'm upset the deal fell through cuz I was going to make a killing off rent...:francis:

If I was staying though I'd be happy this bullshyt fell through...

Downright awful deal for NYer's, especially those who use the Mafia Transportation Authority...
That's what people supporting Amazon deal in this thread don't want to hear. Unless you're a home/real estate owner you would be totally fukked. NYC already has a major homeless problem and a public transportation clusterfukk. Both of these issues would be exacerbated by Amazon, all while getting $3 billion in tax breaks.

But then again most people supporting HQ2 in this thread have an agenda and don't live in Queens or NYC. So keep parroting how Amazon HQ2 would've been great for the neighborhood :hubie:

Nah. . . LIC already has rent too high for most people in NYC. It's too late to be thinking about ''affordable'' housing.

Basically if you don't own property or have a business in Queens this deal is outright terrible for you...

They gentrified the fukk out of LIC building all these high rise apartment complexes nobody making $15-20 an hour can afford...Yea you bringing in jobs to fill those apartments but whose getting those jobs? What about HOUSING for these people making $50k or less? Cost of living going up with Amazon in town, not down...We have a massive homeless problem, NYHCA literally recommending folk that need assistance to move to Jersey yet here you have all these luxury high rises popping up...Unless you can prove to me 75% of the higher salary jobs created from this move would go to NY locals I don't see how anyone can claim Amazon moving here would improve life for paycheck to paycheck struggling NYers...

What do you think they're going to build now that the Amazon deal is dead?

What do you think they're going to put in Sunny Side Yards?

Amazon Cuomo is taking this really hard y'all, someone needs to offer counseling or a shoulder to cry on. :lolbron:

NY Daily News - We are currently unavailable in your region

Gov. Cuomo calls loss of Amazon the 'greatest tragedy' he's seen in politics as he again slams fellow Dems over opposition

Amazon’s decision to drop out of a billion-dollar deal to build a second headquarters in Queens was the “greatest tragedy” Gov. Cuomo has ever seen.

The governor again slammed state Senate Democrats Friday over opposition to the project, casting blame on advocates and local pols who spoke out against tax abatements and incentives the state and city offered the ecommerce giant.

"What happened is the greatest tragedy that I have seen since I have been in government,” Cuomo said during an interview with WAMC’s Alan Chartock.

In his first public comments since the online retail giant backed out of its deal to build a tech campus in Long Island City, the governor refused to cast blame on outspoken Amazon opponent Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Queens), saying “she had no governmental role in this.”

Instead, Cuomo took aim at his fellow Democrats in Albany, specifically Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-Yonkers), saying they could have saved face had they rescinded the appointment of Sen. Michael Gianaris (D-Queens) to a state board that would have had veto power over the project.

"Primarily, the state Senate made the misguided decision, in my opinion, which is now clear to all, to treat Amazon as a local political issue and defer the decision making to the local political senator,” Cuomo said, without mentioning Gianaris by name.

Despite his harsh words, Cuomo claimed the deeply divisive issue hasn’t soured his relationship with legislators in the state capital — but again warned that voters may feel differently.

“No, it doesn't spell trouble between me and them,” he said. "It spells trouble between them and the state of New York.”

Cuomo, who said last week he would not want to be an elected official who opposed the deal up for re-election, specifically pointed to suburban Dems across Long Island, the Hudson Valley and upstate as he warned that New Yorkers may take out their anger over the loss at the polls.

“That’s where they're going to pay a price,” the governor said.

New York leaders wrote an open letter to Jeff Bezos asking him to bring Amazon HQ2 back to Queens

  • Around 40 union leaders, local officials and business owners asked Amazon to reconsider New York for its HQ2 in an open letter published as a full-page ad in The New York Times.
  • The Times reported that Cuomo has been reaching out to Amazon executives, including CEO Jeff Bezos, about reconsidering its plans in the city.
  • Amazon has yet to show signs that it's willing to rethink its decision.

Dear Mr. Bezos:

New Yorkers do not want to give up on the 25,000 permanent jobs, 11,000 union construction and maintenance jobs, and $28 billion in new tax revenues that Amazon was prepared to bring to our state. A clear majority of New Yorkers support this project and were disappointed by your decision not to proceed. We understand that becoming home to the world's industry leader in e-commerce, logistics and web services would be a tremendous boost for our state's technology industry, which is our fastest growing generator of new jobs. As representatives of a wide range of government, business, labor and community interests, we urge you to reconsider, so that we can move forward together.
