gentrification isn't some evil plot, it's a product of people with more money than the existing residents being able to pay more than them. our response to the displaced can't simply be "tough shyt, you should have gotten the right education. hey mr corporation, here are some tax incentives to replace these bums with better people."

residents should be allowed to view these things through the prism of how does X help them personally.

What is your vision for queens?

Instead of complaining what's the solution ? You have unqualified workers in a region that government what's to revitalize with tech jobs. Rent is already going up, the government will need to do something to provide mixed income housing but you can't just ignore the positive development and investment amazon potentially brings.

All I'm asking for is a solution though that you feel meets your criteria , so I can do the same thing you're doing and shyt all over it without any basis

I'm not fan of Amazon's labor ethics, but this is a huge loss for NYC. . . As a member of the Building and Construction trades, there was a deal in place where Amazon going to build union which would have been great for the trades. Also, the pressure they would have had to unionize the workers in the facility would have been ENORMOUS. They would have folded almost certainly.

An enemy like that is best to have in your backyard where you can force them into new ways.

Lol and this is why they pulled out :russ:

This was AOC game plan and they peeped game and exited stage left. Glad she played her hand too early

My gosh are you ignorant ?

Several people have explained this.

There is no 2.5B...it doesn't exist. NyC doesn't have 2.5B to give amazon. Like someone said you're playing a chicken and egg game but it's stupid and redundant

:mjlol: if it doesn't exist then why do they demand it? Why are they picking places on things that never existed? :gucci:

we know the answer, you are just a lair

How can you guys go back and forth with that poster?

Stfu - most of you are dumb asses and when I call you out on it, you get butt hurt.

The sheer number of stupid and erroneous statements is insane. People don't understand basic economics or finances. Most of you probably barely have GEDs, so I shouldn't be surprised

There's a stark difference between asking not to pay 2.5B to the city and the city paying 2.5B to Amazon. Amazon asked for the former. There is no 2.5B laying around in some NY/NYC coffer somewhere.

The real issue is: did the state and city need to go out of its way to give Amazon a 2.5B tax break just for it to build there?

Other concerns I have is that Amazon gets those breaks within 10 years (definitely less than) whereas the city doesn't see a ROI until 25 years later. A lot can change between now and then.

I disagree with your speculation but at least you can articulate correctly what's going on and make sensible arguments.

There is no $2.5B, fellas. . . Why are yall implying there was some sort of subsidy in place? . . . The $2.5B was potential tax revenue from the project if Amazon were to pay taxes to nyc. . . Why is that so hard to understand?

Amazon will get up to $2.2 billion in incentives from New York City, Northern Virginia and Nashville

The incentive also includes a $23 million cash grant from Arlington over 15 years based on incremental growth of an existing local tax on hotel rooms.

City officials recently said they are working with the state to determine the timing of a $50 million grant for the access point and the scale of design it could fund.

The bridge would connect to VRE and the Mount Vernon Trail and cost between $16 million and $26 million to build, according to the report.

another option is a tunnel. That, however, would be more complicated because it would cross below an active railroad corridor, the report said, and cost more — between $28 million and $38 million.
