It's BEEN that way... And it was really the STREETS inspiring the music..

You are right, kinda. The streets inspired the music, but the music inspires the nikkas who are too weak minded to make their own decisions. It's a fukked up cycle. Usually I don't give a fukk about the next nikka or his actions, but music is really fukking up the current generation of kids/teens. I would get so mad at my mom not wanting me to listen to certain music (I did anyway), but she was right when she said some people can't separate entertainment from reality smh

Newark...sorry brougham....it ain't the MUSIC.....it's the lack of PARENTING....

young impressionable kids with no guidance are likely to indulge in activities because they see no value in the life they live.......especially in a world where everybody is getting drunk and high ........what makes popping some "mollys" or dranking "lean" any different???

also it's about ACCOUNTABILITY..i came from a neighborhood where getting "AMPED" on some POWDER (cocaine) was kinda trendy....i made a CHOICE that it wasn't for me.......and alot of this had to do with the fact that i had good guidance from people who didn't indulge in that.....

the only way MUSIC can be blamed is if...no guidance is in the home....

like Chuck D. said..."if the Father isn't present..and the mother is occupied with work and struggling to pay bills...of course the drug dealer or the rapper will become the most dominant FIGURE in these children's life..."

Not saying rappers are to blame for the molly epidemic happening, since it's been going on in the hood for quite sometime. What I'm getting at is its disturbing how it has become acceptable in the hood within the last few years, and now recently glorified by these rappers as the "new acceptable" drug of choice. 20 years ago, or even 10 years ago, you were looked at as crazy for popping pills and drinking cough syrup. Especially if you were teen. Not anymore.

you have to look at the depressing ECONOMICAL TIMES we are in as well...

not everybody is able to SURVIVE or "ball out" during this RECESSION...

thier parents are losing jobs..houses are being forclosed...some forced to move into shelters...marriages and families breaking up

so thier way of "coping" with it is to just get GEEKED UP......

It's kinda like the 70's when the gas crisis and economy was fukked as well....herion and just getting high period was common.......

it became an "ESCAPE"...............That's what these kids are doing looking for an escape...because the adults, the politicians, the preachers nor this "entertaining" technology can provide the outlet they need for some sense of not only happiness but STABILITY............. :manny:

Yeah
Music def plays a role but it def starts with the parents.

If you leave your kids in front of bet and MTV jams all day what do you expect?

You have a point. Economic turmoil and across the board poverty forces people to relieve their stress through different substances (ie alcohol and drugs) And let me backtrack because people in the hood have been using left field drugs for years (ie angel dust, "woolies"). Even back in the late 70's/early 80's, sniffing blow was percieved as being cool in some hoods because all the big time people with money were doing it.

Just imagine if heads was openly talking about smoking crack in the 90's like they doing pills today. Most of these rappers aint using it and it's to early to see what the long term effects of these drugs are going to be. We could be witnessing the beginning of a new epidemic with rappers on the front lines promoting it. This not what Hip Hop is suppose to be about! If we can't at least speak out against this then what they have always said about rap music is true. It's just a tool of the devil that causes all sorts of social ills.
