this doesn't even make any sense..."masculine energy?"

13th is a documentary...how do you make a documentary with masculine energy? :what:

forrest whitaker made waiting to exhale...i've never heard him say that he made that film with feminine energy

Ava is damn near va$htie status to me as a filmmaker. :comeon:
I may have misquoted. She could’ve said a more masculine focus. Like the stories being told mostly revolves around men, and there were mostly men in the documentary.

I feel you, but that doesn't make it any better. there have been women that have made war movies (and got oscars) and the romantic comedy genre was essentially invented by woody allen

As it stands coogler and Ava are the first ever black filmmakers to have the #1 and #2 movie in america

but mark my words, when the hype dies down - Ava will make a comment about sexism being why her shyt wasn't #1 and got negative reviews :comeon:

FWIW, Black directors deserve the same opportunities for big budget movies to fail as other directors.

Black Panther was near perfect in showing little Black girls powerful representations of themselves that had nothing to do with how well they dance, sing or how bad of a bytch they could be.

Ava seems to have caved to all the " Why doesn't ( insert popular movie) have ( insert marginalized/small group) represented?" tweets that pop up anytime a popular movie does big at the box office.

These are among the messages that DuVernay wanted to pack into her film, which is entering theaters just as Black Panther, the superhero movie directed by DuVernay’s friend Ryan Coogler, also charts new frontiers of screen representation. For DuVernay, who based Meg’s look on her niece Molly, one of the most crucial relationships in A Wrinkle in Time is the budding rapport between Meg and her white classmate Calvin (Levi Miller), who twice compliments Meg’s natural curls. “The fact that this Caucasian boy says to her, ‘I like that’? That’s so big for a girl of color!” said DuVernay. “And it’s big for Caucasian boys to be able to feel that’s beautiful, too.”

:mjpls: I wonder why it was so important that comment came from Calvin

This woman is despicable. I wish her nothing but failure in her film career

Imagine if you’re white reading this. Your confidence must be through the roof seeing a whole race desperately trying to gain your approval. When they make comments like this do they not see how pathetic it sounds?
That comment by her was disgusting and should honestly have been vilified more.

Playing right into their egos.
Just disgusting overall.

@Clean Cut must be dying of laughter right now.
