This is the main worry I have about the promotion as a whole. I'm hoping they mix things up and don't just give us an as-is circle jerk of indie darlings. I get that smarks love the guys who have the technical ability to have great matches, but I'd like for there to be some real motherfukkers that actually look, act, and wrestle like they're there for a fight, and not just to be nerd-cool and get jokes off.

Yep I think @Jmare007 said it best: this promotion, at it stands right now, even with their talent pool...is not for us. They're building it for the indie fans who love corny, nudge-nudge, wink-wink cac humor. I don't get why they'd do that. Most people already don't like wrestling and think less of it, now you got some homo bullshyt with Joey Ryan on mainstream TV? People would be flipping the channel so fast.

But that's the vehicle they're using right now to build their promotion. The wrestling and presentation will be fine, I'm just worried that the tone of their TV show will be exactly like BTE. Tony Khan is definitely a smart guy though, hopefully he just doesn't let these wrestlers run the asylum and he implements some interesting ideas.

Sadly they won't. I'm not a prude but his gimmick is embarrassing and he is going to be a low point for AEW.
Joey Ryan with the dikks and the lollipops :snoop:

I don't get why this shyt is popular. I've seen him on MLW... grown men with their mouths wide open (yes homo) waiting for him to stick a lollipop in their mouth that he just had in his own mouth and had pulled out of his tights :hhh:

This guy is obviously going to be a part of AEW, and that's going to be a mark against this company on a personal level for me. It's an indy gimmick that is embarrassing for pro wrestling, and it will NOT help them if they are wanting to become a mainstream company. I hope the Khans and whatever channel they land on put their foot down with this shyt. BTE is entertaining, but some of that niche indy geek stuff needs to get left behind when AEW officially gets going if they want to be anything more than a big budget version of PWG or Chikara or whatever.

Does Joey Ryan actually have fans on this site? :russ:

He wasn't that bad in TNA and I liked the King of Sleaze gimmick. The dikk thing was blown up because of the Pornhub sponsorship; only time it was remotely entertaining was that storyline with Hangman Page murdering him, and given he was "murdered", Page was doing the lifting in that storyline. The Payoff at All In made sense, but the dikk druids were a little over the top.

I understand the concern of AEW being too much on the side of constantly breaking 4th wall/detachment from any real kayfabe. Of course Being the Elite won't help change that mindset until everything goes live.

If I didn't listen to that interview with Kahn, I would probably feel the same. But dude seems as plugged in as you would hope from an owner. He knows the things that made WWF/E great, and is definitely a historian. I think he'll aim for a good balance.
