Pathetic :unimpressed:

This is supposed to be Bernie's successor? Been clear for a minute that she's just out here for the clout and celebrity mingling.

This is some real lib brained faux-revolutionary bullshyt. She's a fraud.

While focus falls on AOC's dress...this news dropped yesterday (why committee spots matter in a nutshell)

Though I don't even think the dress is such a bad thing since a bunch of major sites are running her front and center with a giant "tax the rich" statement blasting out for all to see.

She wanted to party with some celebrities, get some selfies and clout. That's what all this comes down to. :unimpressed:

this is embarrassing

it's september 2021, there are 10 million open jobs that employers are trying to fill, and anyone in america can walk up to a CVS or a walmart and get a vaccine. what is even her justification for this? :mindblown:

It's pretty much been shown that those sorts of benefits DON'T cause people to refuse work. That's just a misconception that was fed from the trickle-down conservatism of three decades ago...it's pretty scummy too. Starving people into accepting low wage, trash jobs that might not even pay enough to put food on the table anyway just seems inhumane. But even beyond moral arguments, from the practical sense...it doesn't work. Here's an article excerpt speaking on this with some links to further information baked into the section...

https://time.com/nextadvisor/in-the-news/what-happens-after-unemployment-benefits-end/

Governors in roughly two dozen states ended federal aid early over the summer, claiming that the extra unemployment benefits were disincentivizing people from finding work and led to labor shortages. Around that time, the economy and the job market were beginning to show solid signs of growth. Jobs were added to the economy overall, although many retail and dining businesses struggled to hire employees and continue to struggle.

Several studies over the last year have disputed claims that jobless benefits deter people from returning to work. Labor Department data released in August shows people living in states that cut off benefits early haven’t rushed back to work. Job growth in states that cut enhanced jobless benefits has been parallel to states that kept the benefits.

In a July Census Bureau data study, Arindrajit Dube, a University of Massachusetts economist, found in states that ended federal programs early, adults receiving extra unemployment benefits fell by 2.2%, but employment didn’t increase. At the same time, employment rose by 0.2% in states that didn’t end extended unemployment insurance prematurely.

Because COVID-19 cases have started to rise again due to the Delta variant, there’s a newfound uncertainty around the economy and job market.

So the Unemployment benefits aren't stopping people from taking crappy jobs...it's the crappy jobs and wages that keep people from accepting them. On top of that, the unemployment benefits did accomplish something upon reflection and study. They actually helped people avoid the poverty line...here's an article on that part.

U.S. government aid helped reduce poverty in 2020, Census data shows

It's kinda ironic that on the same page people call AOC a grifter who does nothing but performative politics, she also gets attacked for taking action that absolutely would help people...and her bill is called socialism. Like on one hand, you've got people saying she's faking her socialist philosophy and not doing anything; and two posts later she's being called embarrassing and a socialist for taking action.
