I think the Bears horrible offensive line holds Jay back quite a bit and I think he has a better upside than Smith due to his ability to make throws that Smith can't .:ld: As far as his personality :yeshrug:

Upside?

If anything Cutler has shown zero progression over his time in the league, you can check em out by the year, he plateaud in his first year, his rookie season was his best. If anything Alex is actually improving and Jay is the same old Jay.

QB rating by the years

2006 88.5
2007 88.1
2008 86
2009 76.8
2010 86.3
2011 85.7
2012 78.9

Besides the him having a big arm (not quite accurate of one though) what does this guy have over Smith?

A big arm is just that, a fukking arm. Kyle Boeller had an arm too

On the contrary, Alex's year by year QB rating ( he missed a year due to injury

2005 40.8
2006 74.8
2007 57.2
2009 81.5
2010 82.1
2011 90.7
2012 so far, 102.1

One is trending upwards, the other is stagnant.

I'm not attacking Smith just saying I think Cutler hasn't reached his full potential because he's playing behind a line that couldnt block a wet paperbag.

I don't think you are attacking Smith either.

I just think a lot of people have a rosey view of Cutler and it's confusing as to why.

I don't think Cutler goes any higher than he is now, he's too stubborn to become a great player. He makes terrible decisions still in year 7 of his career and he is the same passer he was when he got into the league.

Too arrogant and full of himself to learn how to be a great QB

Also lastemp you keep saying Smith is in his second year under Harbaugh so shouldn't Cutler have the excuse of being in his first year under a new offensive coordinator? As s far as the arrogance lots of arrogant individuals have been part of winning championships in team sports it may be difficult but not impossible.

Why do ppl act like Smith is some bum QB? He was drafted #1 overall for a reason and the second he gets some stability and some weapons around him, he's been decent to good

nikkas is just hating to hate

he's been complete utter trash as well

really we can't downplay the fact that he's playing behind the best oline in football right now and one of the most consistent run game. In some way things are made easy for him

he's as middle of the pack as it comes as far as I'm concerned, not as bad as some would want you to believe though...

If Smith didn't have the run game he does, he wouldn't be nearly as successful as he as been the past couple of seasons...

Not in my top 10

49ers..Braves..Celtics
lol @ this nonsense...Alex Smith throws safe, pee wee league passes...sure 18-19 looks good and all that...but where are his 300 yard 3 td games? You cant find them because hes not that type of QB....he's a game manager, not a game winner...look what happened when he faced the Giants this year....SanFran isn't built to play from behind....should anyone get a lead on them, they're in trouble...top 5 QB my asss

I think you missed the part where he is 5th in YPA. He doesn't have "300 yard 3TD games" because he has a total of 209 pass attempts.

Compare that to Eli Manning (294), Tom Brady (320!), Drew Brees (315) and Aaron Rodgers (294).

The 49ers are first in rushing. We win with our running game and defense. Alex and the receivers especially are much improved but they are secondary.

I'm usually one of the first to shyt on Alex but he's playing well against BAD TEAMS. That's something he never did before. We've all been waiting for him to kill bad teams and he is finally doing it. The problem is he still struggles against the elite.. so how far can we go with him as QB is still a huge question mark.

Again, anyone saying "five yard passes" isn't watching. He's making more plays this year than he ever has.

:beli: I think Coli poster on this site can throw a pass for 5 yards when there receivers can actually run there routes and are always open. Anyone, almost anyone can make those passes. All the defense has to do is stop Frank Gore and the run, and make Smith pass the ball down the field. How many times is there gonna be a 3rd and 20, but the Niners always have to settle for a run and then punt the ball all the time? Smith is a really good game manager, just not a really good or great QB. Something he isn't, but there is no problem being a game manager. :manny: I will give him that Saints game in the playoffs last postseason, but for the most part, he is who we thought he was. :hmm:

I don't mind this post at all, that's all I campaign for the guy for, he's better than some would say he is.

His o-line aint the best in the game, it's the best run line though

That's because he's really never done shiit before, so of course there's going to improvement. He's doing a better job at managing the game. But what happens when he's down 10-14 points late in the game? Can he lead his team back? I don't think he can. And I agree, the 9ers rely heavily on their rushing game and Smith's passing attempts just goes to prove my point that he's still a game manager. You can't be a top 10 QB in todays game when you're a run first team.
