So if America wanted to become a dictatorship for whatever reason and started dropping bombs on the major cities that resisted what do you think is gonna happen? My point is a psycho will get the guns legal or not. So even if you ban them they will get them on the illegal market. If someone wants to kill, they will kill. The only real solution to lower gun violence is not a particular ban but to ban all guns but that won't happen in America.

i dont think any you making this argument understand the psychology or strategy of war, and your assessment of america is a bit off, of course most people are fat and lazy, but even fat lazy people organized properly can defeat an organized army just on sheer numbers

and aside from their laziness, americans are known for the religious type of zealotry when it comes to their country and american has a huge population of military veterans, im pretty sure there are more military vets than people in the actual military, so training is not a real issue and if somebody is dropping bombs on you i think that would give you vigor, so in that hypothetical situation you are painting the government would definitely lose, there is no way a government can drop a bomb on an american city and not be overthrown by an armed population, and thats assuming the military itself stays loyal to the government, which will probably not happen either
