Alchemist is a dope producer. His grimey style is top notch.

But Madlib is a music god. He is more multi-faceted than an alchemist who can do any with samples and MPCs. Madlib can do anything musically. He comes from a musical family and he plays a host of instruments. That adds to his production.

And to answer one point, we are talking about beats here. The instrumentals. The loops and drums. The music. I don't give a fukk whose rapping on em. Madlib may not have worked with Nas or Jay or whatever, doesn't mean he isn't known or dope. He been doing this for 20 plus years and made unknown talent become known. Alot of artist have reached out to Madlib for tracks

Kanye West
Common
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Freddie Gibbs

Madlib is just Madlib. Top 2 producers ever. Him, Pete Rock, Dilla, Preemo, Dre (well back in the day) are the gods of this production thing. Alchemist is a level down with 9th and em. Dope as fukk.
youre buggin the fukk out

i'm listening to Basic Instinct like :lawd: right now...but objectively speaking Alchemist beats are better. Like you said you dont care who rapping on em...I dont care who playing the instruments and shyt being used. Alchemist shyt sound better beat for beat.

Im switching over... Madlib is still a genius, and a top 10 producer, but his shyt don't consistently knock like Alc's

He's the Mr. Game And Watch of producers... some of his attacks do crazy damage, but sometimes he'll just throw a cabbage at you

Yea I said that about 3 years ago before I heard his project with evidence, the project he did with action bronson and a few other tracks. He is better than 9th but I still hold Madlib in higher regard.

The Product was an underrated group. I don't remember the name of the other 2 dudes but Scarface sounded good on that beat.

Love both man.

I don't know how I remember this but he switched from the ASR to the MPC over a decade ago and one day went back and did one on the ASR again and this is it.

I don't know much about the difference in samplers, or what makes them make different sounds and what not, but I always thought this was evidence that different samplers do have different feels or textures to them. Because the bass lines on this beat have almost like a warm and analog type of sound that some of his really old ASR beats also had.

Maybe someone that actually produces can tell me if I'm full of shyt on that or not. I remember when Khrysis switched over to using the Maschine that his beats started having a different feel/texture to them also.

Man I still bump that Product album (cant believe its 10 years old). Young Malice and Will Henn were dope as hell. Young Malice had a dope ass mixtape and they had another track on Scarface's Emeritus album with Z-Ro Soldier Story.
