I thought it was clear. What do you need clarification on?

It sounded like you knew the purpose of the universe... and since you'd be the first person in history to have that piece of information I was wondering if you could explain further.

The evolution of sentience and intelligence will be machines. We're just a stepping stone to that point. There is no inherent purpose to the universe, and the closest thing to a "purpose" is to determine what the universe truly is, and what encompasses existence. Due to the limitations of the physiological and biological vessel we call our bodies, this will never be truly attainable as we are presently constructed. Our fates have long been sealed by the deterministic cogs of this existence so enjoy being human while you can.

In the end, you and I are no different than our mice-like mammalian ancestors, waiting in caves to evolve as the dinosaurs around them perish at the hands of the same force of nature that allows them the opportunity to exist in the first place.

Artificial Intelligence is about the program learning how to do things better/efficient, without being told or having to upload an update with new parameters. It will still suffer from the same problems all computers suffered. It still has to be programmed. To me AI is about processing data, running simulations, and outputting the best scenario or probability.

The fear everyone has about the AI becoming "rogue" is not to be downplayed, but I feel it will still follow form over function. An "AI microwave" is mostly gonna to stay an "AI microwave". Or "AI Surgical Operating room robot" is most likely going to stay an "AI Surgical Operating room robot".

I feel AI will get to the point where computer processing power and the "Cloud" would not be as limiting because the programs would be a lot more efficient. The "Cloud" allows you to do calculations in a month, that would take a 114 years, but AI would decide if those calculations are even necessary because it can think with its Artificial Intelligence.

The fear everyone has about the AI becoming "rogue" is not to be downplayed, and people feel that when the AI becomes "aware" it will try to enslave us...to me AI has always been about building a better mouse trap.

I said the exact opposite of that actually. Please read it again.

I'm talking about true AI. Something aware of its own existence. A machine with the intelligence to self-learn and implement. A machine with the capability to create other machines that behave like it. We're decades upon decades away from that most likely. You and I will long be gone from this planet.

You said there is no inherent purpose to the universe.

I'm asking how you know that.

I don't. Do you know for a fact there is one?

People assign their own purpose, thus it means there is a vacuum present due to an objective purpose not existing. When you follow that to its logical conclusion it is safe to assume no objective purpose exists.

Do you wish to counter this argument?

I think the most accurate statement is we don't know.

And to assume the human mind can comprehend the vastness of the universe let alone it's purpose is... amusing.

To me patterns and systems of organization denotes some level of inherent coordination, and inherent coordination to me suggests a purpose.

Uh...this is what I said in my post. Seriously, did you not read it?

The human mind is limited by our physical being. Our mortality. Our fragile state of consciousness. Our emotions. By many things. Everything that makes us humans.

All those philosophical school of thoughts about reaching out of body existence, heaven, third eye, astral, vivid dreams, weaving our own existence, etc... Maybe those people were speaking about what we are speaking of: transferring our consciousness, intelligence and sentient form to a higher level of life may be a precursor to the technological singularity.

Man accepting that we are not the end of the line, but somewhere near the beginning or middle. We know our limitations. Every year, as we go on, we become more and more dependent on machines for our every day life. One day they will replace us. Maybe that's a good thing, I don't know. We always picture Terminators and the Matrix, but what if it is for the best? Or maybe we deserve to be treated as our species treated neanderthals or other forms of intelligence like dolphins and whales?

I don't know.
