I'm still baffled as to why people are acting like RDJ is the ONLY person who can play this character. I don't see anything that he brings to Iron Man that wasn't already there in the comics.

Just get another Actor to fill the role when Downey's job is up.

People get on my nerves with that "No one will ever be as good of a _____ as _____". Even though there are countless examples that prove otherwise.

You my mans Hawk but, nobody gave a shyt about Iron Man, atleast the movie going public before RDJ. He was born to play that role. You know how it go, they can get another actor to play Iron Man but, they're going to lose a shytload of money.

That's not really true....

Nobody really gave a shyt AFTER RDJ was announced as the lead either. The major buzz for Iron Man didn't start until after they showed that footage at San Diego Comic con.

And lets be real, RDJ wasn't pulling in huge numbers on his name alone until AFTER Iron Man.

Everything you saying now about RDJ is what people were saying years ago about Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. Hell people were saying that about Edward Norton as Bruce Banner....

There's a reason certain characters can endure for 50+ years. As long as they keep making good films the Iron Man franchise will be fine without RDJ. Like I said there is NOTHING RDJ added to the character that wasn't already there, it's not like he added his own spin or take on Tony Stark.

I know I didnt give a shyt about it. If you told me in 2003 that Iron Man would be one of the most profitable franchises, I'd be leery :ld: Spiderman, Batman, Superman.....yea, Id understand. I dont remember anyone besides comic book nerds giving a fukk about Iron Man 10 years ago. RDJ is more attached to the franchise than the actors who did Superman, Spiderman, Batman because he spearhanded it, he was first. If the studios decide to do an Iron Man movie 15 years from now, with a new actor, I could see it being successful. But if they try to do a reboot in like 2018, people are gonna be :beli:

I do get your point tho. Im just not sure....I feel bad for whoever has to do the next Iron Man films.

C/S

Not to mention RDJ has had serious personal life issues. Dude damn near fell out of hollywood, to say that interest in him hasn't raised interest in iron man is foolish.

Dont get me wrong, the movies have been dope, but comeon.. compared to the nolans batman franchise the iron mans are average box office popcorn flicks. Not much substance at all.

As long as he's there for Avengers 2 I don't care past that. The dude is about to hit 50. Yall can't expect him to do this for much longer.

Have Thanos kill Iron Man in avengers 2 :manny:

I feel him considering he is pushing 50 but damn he made 50 million off the Avengers. Aint no telling what he gonna make off this next Iron Man movie then. Its gonna be hard for him to turn down that money no matter how old he gets.

Good.

Rather see him make films like Zodiac rather than star in Iron Man pt 7.

Replacing RDJ isn't like replacing Jack Nicholson. That was 20+ years ago. It would be like replacing Heath Ledger, which DC was smart enough not to even try. To make matters worse, Ironman isn't even as popular as The Joker so the character alone isn't enough to keep it popular.

This ain't like Edward Norton either. That movie got :ehh: reviews and nobody was raving about Norton's performance. Which is why Mark Ruffalo could swoop in so easy. If you compare it to "Ironman", it's not even close. RDJ and the movie itself got rave reviews for completely nailing the character.

I'm not saying it's impossible to replace RDJ, but Marvel would be better served just throwing money at RDJ to keep him around.

Marvel and DC have two completely different ways of handling their properties

I think if it was up to Marvel in the Batman situation, the joker would be replaced....Marvel believes its characters are bigger than the actor...bottom line Marvel is gonna end up replacing RDJ, and as long as the scripts are well written, nobody will care.....Marvel is 007:salute:

Yeah, Stark isn't exactly a hard character to play, honestly. It's pretty straightforward. Not saying that RDJ doesn't do a great job, just saying he's not exactly irreplaceable.

In terms of being replaceable, hes at a certain tier. Christian Bale as Batman status. Right there with Reeves as Superman and about 1000x higher than bytch nikka Tobey as Spidey status.

We don't really have anything to go by to know this. Terrence Howard and Edward Norton weren't well received, and their respective movies success/critical acclaim wasn't hinged on their performance.

RDJ is "Ironman". He made it successful/popular in modern times. Before "Avengers" his movies were the best reviewed and made the most money out of any Marvel film to date.

So they can't be approaching this news with the same "fukk it" attitude as Norton or Howard. Prior to that first movie nobody gave a fukk about "Ironman" in the mainstream, so I'm not sure they want to gamble on how much of that was the character, and how much was RDJ.

Picks I'd be okay with off the top of my head: Colin Farrell, Michael Fassbender, Jude Law. I think those 3 could pull it off, especially Fassbender, though I truly believe he was born to play Strange.
