To me, personally, yes. I could see why others would disagree, though. It seemed like he just stopped trying after Wizard of Poetry. People say Prodigy fell off, but I MUCH prefer his pre-prison run (ROTM, HNIC 2, and POT80s) and Albert Einstein to Ghost's albums in the same time frame.

Side note: People really underrate the Pretty Toney album.

EDIT: I'd probably rank Ghost in my personal top five.

I vehemently disagree with most of these picks. But I see what you're going for (although Pac, Quik and Redman, to a lesser extent, throw me for a loop) and I can respect it.

He def in my top 10

Only mark you can make against him is commercial success but to measure who is great based on that is allowing marketing machines and quasi homo dudes from over seas to dictate who is important and who is relevant to me personally. Can't do that sorry.

It's the same as if one ask who is your top 10 basketball players and you putting in guys like bill Russell and wilt chamberlain who you have never seen play. But the old heads dictate they importance where in contrast personally I don't think either of them would have been that great amongst better competition.

Ghost has damn near a flawless catalog. Ironman supreme clientele fishscale and big doe rehab are personal classics for me and I can only name a handful of guys who have 4 classics to me.

It's also a difference between top artist vs Mc where now if we talking top 10 artist ghost is def there but Mc he not there for me.

Agree.

First, when you're talking best MC of all time, group work is included. It ain't the best solo album catalog ever. It's who's the best man on the mic in all iterations. So that includes his contributions to group albums & co-starring w/ Rae on both Cubans, where Ghost was such the standout on Cuban Linx that he leapfrogged mid-90s Deck to drop an album.

Second, Ghostface switched his style completely on 4 successive albums and remained for the most part consistent. Ironman was continuing his style from the guest spots & Wu solos, then he went into his abstract style on Supreme, then abandoned that to have an album of all concept & story tracks on Bulletproof Wallets (The problems with that album were all production & songs kept off/ changed for sample clearance but that is one of Ghost's best performances on the mic.) That album's reception & criticism had him step back lyrically on Pretty Tony but he rebounded with Fishscale which compiled all the styles he'd done before. And his Supreme Clientele style was so iconic that people a decade & a half later talk shyt about 'Ghost not making sense' when he dropped that style back in 2001 (meaning you can easily dismiss them as they're not even listening).

Third, The importance and influence of Ghostface. There's the influence as part of Wu as a whole. There's the influence of Cuban Linx, which blows up mafioso rap and inspires It Was Written, Doe or Die, Reasonable Doubt, etc... There's the influence of Supreme Clientele, which was a sample heavy album in the keyboard era when people were writing the sample off as dead. SC was the blueprint to the Blueprint's return to samples and inspired the next 5 years of production:

- Kanye West

Fourth, you've got an ear for beats. Ghost has stayed once of the most consistent emcees in the game who, while rapping over many different types of beats and never limiting himself, has always maintained a tremendous sonic backdrop to his rhymes. While there are arguments for better people on the mic, I don't think anyone else on the mic tops Ghost's ear for what he's rhyming on. And that's huge. Take whoever your favorite MC is and put him over Ghost's instrumentals and it's an immediate upgrade.

Fifth, you've got flow

you've got storytelling

?t=1m35s

you've got raw spitting

you've got emotions

you've got originality

Opinions are whatever and everyone's lists will be different, but I bet if you got a top 10 without Ghost, when you break it down some of those people aren't seeing Starks.

Hold this rep my man.

:manny: list was off the top, itll change, Royce & Joell are just "borrowin" spots, theyre def gonna drop off.. when i make my list i dont care about things some people do like: popularity, longevity, impact, legend status, accomplishments, personal lives, etc... i just care how much i feel their music.... most of other people top 10 wouldnt even reach my top 20...

2Pac: GOAT
Tech N9ne: my favorite rapper alive
Crooked I: liked pretty much everything ive heard, i just like his style & he goes hard
Kool G Rap & Big Punisher: both influenced me, i use multies a lot & they helped me perfect my flow
Joe Buddens: just been dig his music, he says a lot of deep shyt i relate to cause i think similar
DJ Quik: hes versatile & hes made some of my favorite music, for himself & others
Redman: hes a beast, spit some of my favorite verses, just cant stand some of his production so he might drop

Sales and what other rappers say about him. Great argument.
As opposed to what? your INDIVIDUAL opinion? :mjlol:
(1) To have big sales, you have to show consistency, and thus, sales are an indication of whether or not the consumers are wiling to pay for your product...

(2) Received accolades from peers is a better way of judging if an artist is worth his/her salt than listening to what an individual fan has to say....

Eminem, Jay Z and 2Pac have the sales and praise from their peers, and therefore they are MORE deserving of the Top 3 spots in Hip Hop than ANY other rapper that has ever held the MIC....

You can't make a REASONABLE and OBJECTIVE case for another rapper to be better than Eminem, Jay Z or 2Pac...

Also, Nelly, Biggie, MC Hammer, DMX, 50 Cent, Ludacris are ALL MORE deserving Top 4 or 5 than GFK...

If we are being OBJECTIVE....That's the key word...
