Erick did some excellent work on Red and Meth's 1st Blackout! album too:

This joint was my favorite "new" Sermon produced beat on the Blackout! album:

And who could forget that Erick produced this classic? :what::damn::wow:

I love EPMD and almost all of Sermons work, but he isn't the 4th best producer of all time.

He isn't better than Pete Rock either, nor is RZA.

Pete Rock? :aicmon:

Pete Rock hasn't released anything great since The Main Ingredient. He got stuck in a time warp after that. Erick Sermon released some great ("Music" single) and good stuff in the 2000's.

And nor is RZA what? Better than Pete Rock? RZA even released some good stuff in the 2000's, Pete has not. RZA is a better producer than Pete.

among others

Pete hasn't put together quite the material he should have over the past decade, but in a technical sense he's still very much arguably a "better" producer than either RZA or E-Dub. I'd argue Extra P is too.

I know when I'm digging thru records and nabbing bits here or there he makes me :KRS: more often than Sermon does

no way.... If Erick Sermon was a top 5 producer then Redman's first album wouldn't be a forgotten remnant of golden age hip hop

Hell yeah he's top ten. He has album after album after album of classics. Classic after classic with EPMD. Classic after Classic with Redman. Classic songs with Keith Murray. Classic production on his own albums.

Just as a general statement... you guys factor in later work/consistency wayyyyy too much when discussing producers.

Who the fukk cares which legends have put out some decent releases in the past decade? Whats more important is who reached that apex when they were in their prime, and who has an overall stronger body of work.

Let's not also forget the Dave Hollister stuff he did
