Africans: Can you tell what tribe or country Diasporans are from just by looking at them?

A good portion of Jamaicans are from the Ashanti tribe. But that's fact. Guessing by just looking at someone? Ehh.
I'm just basing it from what I've seen. The phenotypes does seem to match with the groups, not 100% but its a start. Chris Tucker looks like an Angolan.

It's not far fetched to believe you would retain some characteristics of that group. 400 is a small gap in history.

Yeah, for sure. John Amos comes to mind. It really wasn't that long ago.

It is very far fetched to think your maternal and paternal lineage come mostly from 1 tribe unless isolated like Gullah people.

Chris Tucker comes from a rural Georgia city so it is a bit more believable but the overwhelming AA population don't come from any one tribe nor do I think any one tribe comprises more than 50% of their admixture.

Its very rare that you could be from Ethiopia. Much of the slave taken were from West and West Central Africa with some small % coming from the lower part of East Africa not the horn. Its not totally out the question but most of AA's are from the westside.

You have a better chance having an East Indian or Chinese relative than an Ethiopian one. One my friends ancestors was an East Indian Slave. Her family is from Georgia and she looks Nigerian. So you never know.:manny:

I'm not saying that, Im saying the your DNA matches or you have more DNA links with said people. It doesn't mean your not mixed with other tribes.
I think maternal lineage in many AA's is one of the more untainted lineages and I think we all know why.

I think it depends on the individual too. :manny: People in certain areas will have different outcomes.

Chris Tucker from Decatur lol

But Gullah/Geechie folks I believe are from one tribe (Just go to a City like Savannah), They say Gullah = Gola which is a West African tribe (found in Liberia and a few other places) but who knows.

That said, I`m african and dont care about the whole "you look like you from" mess, people say I dont look African whatever that means.

for africans yes, but due to tribe mixing up it's starting become harder

diaspora nope, your genes are amalgamated so it's usually damn near impossible unless a blood test is being done
