Africans accuse African Americans of "appropriating" their culture (legitimate criticism?)

there a few Somalis in NY/NJ so idk

Im not trying to throw anyone under the bus but maybe the Somali poster @BocaRear can shed light. I had many chats with Somalis who identified as "black" but they admitted than the term/way of identifying was foreign to them. They told me it was true any "black" or African who don't look Horner gets called "bantu" and is used as a term of degradation. It's because of Western concepts of race and Pan-Africanism that they started to change up.

what is the point you are making because if Somalis are black than saying "black excellence" shouldn't be a problem

That's not the point. Obviously she's black, but it's the context she's speaking in. "Blackexcellence" is an African American term. Somali's who aren't westernized don't identify as "black". I was pointing out her hypocrisy of her separating herself from African Americans along the lines of ethnicity when it came to discussions of Africa then trying to be inclusive with African Americans in claiming the streets of Minneapolis the next. Separate when there is no benefit, and unify when there is.

my thing is if the term "black" applies to Somalis (or whatever group) than the phrase "black excellence" can be used by them

The term "black" only applies because they directly or indirectly are influenced by Afram ways of identifying.

Seems like you care more about the phrasing and choice of words than the point people are trying to make to you. You acting real nitpicky right now. Everyone knows they're "black". But she using the phrase "blackexcellence" as a way to claim African American shyt while separating herself from African Americans. Point is if you don't want African Americans claiming Africa or involving themselves in African dialogue etc, then don't try to claim African American shyt either. It makes you look hypocritical.

nikka you are really on one right now :dwillhuh::why::wtf:

WTF does an African American street look like?:dahell:

If it wasn't for African Americans fighting for their rights here on American soil, those streets in Minneapolis would be named something else. Those are her community markers that she benefits from because of the African American struggle for civil rights. This chick uses AAVE, participates in African American culture, and her ethnic group is allowed to thrive here off the work of African Americans. Yes, she is obviously claiming African American shyt while trying to separate from African Americans. She only want that unity when it's to her benefit i.e. one of those streets being named after her cultural group. You really are purposefully acting stupid to ignore the points nikkas are making in this thread.

IMO

Pan-Africanism doesn't work if you are using your ethnicity to EXCLUDE each other rather than using it as a way to teach each other about the differences in your cultures. Instead of saying a Black American isn't African, an African born on the continent or who grew up there could have simply informed her about what they witnessed on the ground. When you think you are right and you are superior then thats where anti-Blackness manifests itself in the diaspora.

from what i've read, the Government put them there :yeshrug:

There being African American communities in Minnesota....the tension that came from Somali refugees moving into AA hoods is well documented.

So not only did African Americans shed blood for them to immigrate here but they had to put up with their PTSD afflicted population.

Also

If you are only the child of Africans or born in Africa but did not grow up there, PLEASE stop pretending like you can speak for the majority of Africans growing up in African rural areas :snoop:

nikka are you being serious right now? This shyt was just explained to you. Point blank, NONE of that shyt would happen without African Americans. She is clearly benefiting off of African Americans by having her cultural markers in the form of street signs in Minneapolis. "Blackexcellence" is AAVE that she is using to identify with African Americans while separating herself from us at the same time by separating herself along the lines of her ethnicity and culture. She is obviously being a hypocrite here by telling African Americans that they're not African and have no right to speak on African affairs yet she claims African American culture and it's benefits. What the fukk are you confused about nikka? Are you really this fukking obtuse?:why:
