Africans accuse African Americans of "appropriating" their culture (legitimate criticism?)

Gotta slightly disagree here. People know it's our shyt, they just don't give a fukk about disrespecting us.

Yes and no. Many things from Afram culture that are influencing them are as old as 40-100 years ago in origin. For the more contemporary influences, you have a point. The whole thing about Aframs not having a distinct culture is mainly due to it being so widespread/popular that it doesn't stand out as distinctly Afram to some people.

that post about the renamed streets with the hashtag

are they not black then?
I guess this is directed at me? I was making the point of how this chick one minute wants to separate herself and her heritage from that of Black Americans one minute than wants to be inclusive the next when it's to her benefit. I don't know how that shyt went over your head.

I see where you're coming from, but even the cultural influences that are that old still have a widespread history behind them which is common. For instance, Jazz being introduced to the French By African Americans during the early 30's and the height of WW1 and 2. People know where it's coming from, they just don't respect where it's coming from.

Are you acting obtuse just for the fukk of it? Or are you not understanding the point I'm making?

Except "African Americans" came up with the term.

Somalis don't usually see themselves as Black unless Westernized so its hypocritical.
idk if you can definitely say that

so Somalis are like Dominicans ?

Im talking about the not so obvious to the non-musician. For example, I bet most modern black South Africans aren't aware that they sing like this because 80-100 year old Afram influences but the South African's from that time were aware of it

what is the point you are making because if Somalis are black than saying "black excellence" shouldn't be a problem

Somalis in Africa from what I understand don't see themselves as "black" and as I pointed out before, the way "black" is used in that context is a Afram creation.

anti-Blackness is an acknowledged part of their culture...not saying they are all c00ns

there are few Somalis in NY/NJ so idk
