You African cats are delusional:dead:

I posted some songs below from the Nigeria compilation illmaticdelta mentioned along with the other albums

Can you please explain how they are pop or R&b to me?

I've only listened to two of the albums he posted so I can't say every single album he posted is devoid of pop and R&b but I'm thinking you guys havent listened to any of them from the you guys are describing them as pop or R&b

They are Blues (African American) music just with African drums .... Blues is the foundation of rhythm and BLUES (rnb) and pop:dead:

Dude just posted Blues music with African vocalist :dead:

Is highlife even blues?

Where does "blues" start and stop exactly?

The last song sounds more like blues but the other three not so much

Anyway they aren't pop or R&b regardless of whether you think they're blues so that just ties into my point

I'm re listening to the first song i posted oja omoba right now and trying to compare it to some of the blues I know and I don't see the similarity but you guys probably know more about blues than me so maybe you'll see the similarities better and you can break down why oja omoba is blues and explain it to me

Have you listened to those compilation albums you're posting?

Because I've listened to two of them (Ghana Soundz and Nigeria Special) before and they are not pop or R & B by any means. Or did you not get what I was saying in my post? Mj's music is for the most part not the kind of music they were into

Angelique kidjo is my idea of pop in Africa for example though she has a lot of other musical styles she does

Ali farka toure, Youssou Ndour, Cardinal Rex Lawson, Joe Mensah or Nico Mbarga are not pop or R&b at all to me. I think we might have a different meaning by pop

yes,I've heard all of them. They're all mixtures of music ranging from from Soul, Funk, Jazz, Afro-Cuban etc..influenced music mixed with native forms. Read below on just how big Soul/Funk was in Africa, in this case West Africa...

nikka, the "Blues" don't stop. All African American music, including Rock and Roll, R&B, Soul, Jazz, Country, Hip Hop, Rap, Pop, everything; comes from the Blues. The Blues comes from Gospel music.

The wind instruments? The bass? The song structure? :dwillhuh:

Could you go into more detail?

Can't there be blues music without wind instruments and isn't there other music one can make with wind instruments besides blues?

I don't know what is blues style about the way the instruments are used in that song so that is why I'm hoping you guys can explain in detail about it

And I don't get what you mean by song structure

I'm not trying to be obtuse or "delusional" I just genuinely don't get it so I'd prefer a more detailed explanation

Yes. It is called Jazz. Jazz is the Blues with instruments. Jazz fused with Soul is sometimes referred to as Funk.

I understand quite well that James Brown and funk was popular I've read about that already

And fela's music was different from those I've posted. I don't know how much of it you've heard but his stuff is just different. I wouldn't group him with Rex Lawson or dele ojo and people like that in terms of music style

But that doesn't address what I said about pop/ r&B though

I think african Americans might have had the blues even before gospel

The soul music that went o Africa wasn't just Funk like James Brown. It was R&B period mixed with other black american music.
