Africans accuse African Americans of "appropriating" their culture (legitimate criticism?)

It's a rare to see Aframs rocking African attire unless they're on some Afrocentric tip. I don't even know how it would become a topic when it's actually a rare sight.
I was thinking that as well, usually if you're rocking it, it's your thing and has been for a long time. You don't just Rachel Dolezal something like that, unless they mean for weddings or something? :yeshrug: That's just my experience, can't say they're necessarily lying but yeah.

I dont know why people run from or off the topic of Africans trying to look down on New World Blacks especially African-Americans. This is a subject that everyone seems afraid talk about, but instead try to stick their heads in the sand.

I don't see anything @Poitier or anyone else said wrong. The fact is Africans, especially first gen immigrants have a very eurocentric viewpoint of AA's. They are naive and ignorant about AA's. They don't know what its like to live under a dominate culture and see AA's addressing white supremacy as us being "whiners" or "lazy".

People may bash Hispanics specifically Mexicans(I'll admit I have too), but at least Mexicans aren't naive about white racism and have MUTUAL understanding with AA's when it comes to racism in America. Africans on the other hand think its a myth and AA's are crybabies and they even side with whites.

Some of the discussions I've seen with Africans talking about the Trayvon, Michael Brown and police brutality situations are all testament to that. I've also seen some Africans get very hateful with AA's who have a big interest in their African heritage, those Africans telling those AA's that they are NOT African but American and for them to stick to American culture. This is why I've always been :yeshrug: since...

And yeah I don't give a damn if I offend anyone. This NEEDS to be addressed instead of us stuffing it in the closet...

Some aa are more connected to western countries than africa and do use africa as a prop rather than explore what the continent has to offer. So dont come in here with woe is me attitude as if you guys don't antagonize africans.

I can see where they're coming from with the clothes. :ld:

That said, it's not that serious :bryan:

How can you see where they are coming from with the clothes, when it is not just their clothes. People seem to forget that African Americans are Africans and their ancestors wore the same traditional clothes before they were sold off by Africans.

What started this debate?

I see what those Twitter users are trying to say, but they need to fall back with this one. They're lowkey trying to have their cake and eat it too.

Let me go find a twitter debate @Poitier that has aa asking africans if they rode on zebras or starved growing up until they hit shores of america. Then i can frame my argument that all aa hate africans. What nonsensical BS!!!

Weddings for one, it's no different than whites doing an Asian inspired theme or <insert another culture> So that's how I understand that in those instances. AA have their own trends clothing wise since seemingly forever but like I said in the other comment, when I see someone in African attire, it's not a fad to them. That's what they're always in. So I don't know any AA personally just wearing those clothings just because it's "in"

Wait who the hell denied AA's dissing Africans???? That gets addressed MANY times on here and around the net. Hell in real life. When Africans are always the victims of getting picked on by AA's in elementary school and hood. Yeah that gets addressed ALL the time.

Now what doesnt get addressed is Africans trying to look down on AA's, calling them "akatas", stereotyping them as thugs and lazy and even taking the sides of whites against AA's.

Define a c00n cause you skipped quite a bit before responding to me.
You relations with black men are poor.

If it wasn't so bad then I'd of seen you as one who cares about the black community.

My brother does. He lived in Senegal and in Mali for a few years before he moved back to the USA.
