Arent tigrays the majority of eritrea? Why did the ethiopeans start war with tigrays of eritrea if the tigrays hold most position of power?
The one thing I don't get is, if the tigrinya people have power in Ethiopia and can now do things their way, why did the tigrinya people that inhabit the area of what is now eritrea secede. I just don't get it. I get that Amharas have historically treated them like shyt since Yohanness died, but the Amharas aren't in power anymore. It just doesn't seem to be in their interests to split with Ethiopia just when their ethnic group is in power. The answer would be so long, honestly its best to just read the Wiki on the whole situation.
Tigray people are a minority in Ethiopia and were under harsh treatment from the Derg regime, for example: it was dangerous to speak Tigrinya in a lot of public places due to the gov. wanting an assimilated Ethiopia(I grew up in Addis Abeba during the tail end of the conflict & ensuing power change)
TPLF[Tigray people's libration front] was the faction that defeated the USSR backed Derg regime, after the fall of the Derg government TPLF took power with The leader of TPLF becoming the new Prime Minister of Ethiopia for 20+ years.
Spoils go to the victor

Asmara is a beautiful place, they say it's the little Italy of Africa. How's the Ethiopian economy...you live in Ethiopia right?Eritrea mostly due isolation and being Single-party presidential republic where president is both the head of state and head of gov. There are no general elections. Relations with the west are slim to none. Forced military service.
Beautiful place and has an amazing coastline

Yeah I'm from the DMV.This is where things get extremely complicated.
Eritrea[EPLF] was fighting alongside the TPLF during the war against the Derg, since that was the common enemy and most of the fighting took place in northern Ethiopia(Tigray region) and Eritrea. Even though the Tigray region in Ethiopia and Eritrea share the same majority ethnic group & language, they are their own respective regions.
Eritrea has wanted independence for a long time, even under Haile Selassie rule, but with the EPLF[Eritrean people libration front] and TPLF[Tigray people's libration front] both wanting to get rid of the Derg gov.[military dictatorship] they joined forces to acheive that common goal.
When that was complete(1991)they[EPLF, TPLF] had completely different ideologies/leader of each faction wanting to stay in charge, resulting in the independence of Eritrea with the leader of the EPLF becoming its president and TPLF transitioned into the current gov of Ethiopia.
every leading economist has said unification is better for the economy for both the Eritrean region and greater Ethiopia and that secession will kill both our economies.
I went to adis last year....the roads are so fukked up, their were crater size potholes in the middle of the city.I don't live there, she lives in me but born and raised in Addis.
From my last visit: New projects taking off all over the cities, upstarts flourishing(usually import/export businesses) many new high rises(scaffoldings everywhere) and highways by Chinese and Indians. I noticed a lot of German contractors in the countryside maintaining/researching historical sites. On the negative Addis is congested and pollution is on the rise, it's a stark contrast to the natural countrysides.
As far as your other post, there are a lot of factors contributing to the rift between the two including Italy's involvement way back.
