I agree. No music pushes people to do anything, but why are posters bringing up Boosie in this thread?
Becuase if we want to replicate the story and make it common for black students to excel we will have to address anti academic aspects of black culture, and boosie is the epitomize if an anti academic mentality that infuses African american culture

there is no anti intellectual propaganda. Are people easily influenced? Sure, but that copout to why too many black folks dont care for education.

Stupid comment. People support black achievement and making a big deal about fans celebrating the release of a rapper is total divisiveness. That's why coli "militants" are some funny backwards mafukkas misusing words like c00n and gettin duped into hatin other black people. The intentions are good but its no understanding of context. Boosie encourages people like Tunde to do what he did, if you listened to the music you'd know but ignorance is easier I understand.

I wouldnt slam bruh so quickly. I will be the first to admit, I have never nor will I ever listen to 3 words from LiL Booty Besty Bootsie or whatever moniker he uses. But the fact remains that his release was celebrated like the he it was a milestone. I don't follow him but I knew he came home from jail and there were "free bootsie" T-shirts and other campaigns during his incarceration. I have yet to see one "Duron got 2000 on the SATs" T-shirts or "Derrick just made valedictorian" sweatbands so I see his point.

I do agree that the black elite SHOULD band together and help spread the word on the positive influences through investing in our own Media companies and record labels/distrubution companies so there can be some balance to perception of black america.

But whether its that poster slamming blacks for celebrating Bootsie or its you challenging blacks to control their own story...at the end of the day its still

black on black combat :blessed:

First off @2Quik4UHoes is right.... some people do get encouragement from rappers. one of your fellow posters made over 100K when they were like 26, 27 or some shyt...built a great career, has cac working for him n shyt...... he listened to two particular ignorant as fukk rappers EVERY SINGLE morning...... but the point is.. shyt's only harmful if you were going to be an unproductive person in society anyway. It's social economic factors .... not music. --- My boy was recently shot in his neck and his leg... he doesn't listen to rap at all.. He didn't die either.. and his people n him retaliated. I bet if he did listen to rap people would mistake his violence as something caused by Music when really it was cause by him not giving up his stuff and standing his ground and not being a bytchnikka. FYI- there are a bunch of white and asian kids at IVY league schools who listen to rap and even go to bars that play rap music.

SMH, I can not believe you guys are saying he should have scored a 2400..and that he won't be competitive... He 1000X more competitive and valuable than some nerdy fukk who have a 5.0 and 2400 and some random academic shyt... This brother is a STudent Athlete. Plus is involved in other shyt... plus is presentable. my whole circle went to big 10 schools on academic scholarship... Correct me if I'm wrong, but universities love to have graduates that go on to run shyt and do great things..THEY VIEW THE WHOLE student... and not just have nerds with the 'right' scores attend their schools. Smart people who are charismatic enough to maybe be a CEO one day..... not some STEM nerd who can ONLY do stem shyt and not relate to anyone outside of Stem shyt.

The part I like about the story is the name changes and the anti-c00ning message that his parents are pushing. not giving into the USA or CAC shyt is the easy route to having intelligent and successful children. You can't control all your kids actions... but you can give them values and motivation to success for all their people. all the kids in my sons school are non black but he knows for sure not to let me find out some random pink cac kid in his class knows some math shyt more than him...especially when the school cost more than a mortgage. That just wouldn't make sense.. when he's working with the advantage of black excellence and experience. IF You listen to cac and c00ns (like the ones in this and every thread) they will tell you that we are "anti academic" and all this bullshyt... We aren't... we are just Americanized which equals believing that we don't have to go above and beyond to make it. The best thing about the afrocentric lens this young brotha has is that he has a good chance at being successful but still not falling in line with the 'western' propaganda and BS about his own people so that he can encourage more just like him.

I don't understand what you are saying
the kid has a nigerian sounding name. some immigrants keep intact that hustle, others become americanized. as for black folks being anti-education: it's full of shyt. you can't give people shyt and feign befuddlement when they give you back shyt.

so in other words according to you black people cant rise until white people let black people rise?

i would never agree with your logic and ideology because i will never accept an ideology that puts the future of black people in the hands of white people

its black people that need to change, white people can continue doing whatever it is they have been doing and actually i will look at black people in befuddlement when they continue doing things that will lead us down

.

this is awful non mathematical logic, one or two people being exceptional doesnt mean anything, what you have to look at is the overall population

and white and asian people listen to rap music as entertainment, a lot of black people listen to rap music as a form of identity, that is a big difference

You have to be kidding me right?

it's not one of two people being exceptional.. and the overall population of America is ignorant... and there was a potion of the blacks that were ignorant before rap. Rap isn't the cause; the causes are social economical... and only people who like to generalize all black people and diss black youth culture will tell you different (see post above)

How are you gonna generalize whites, asians, and blacks in one sentence?? There are white people who want to live the music and feel like they can also identify with it... they are the #1 and most die hard fans....if it weren't for their white skin --- they would also have to worry about c00ns generalizing them as well -by stating they "listen to rap music as a form of identity"

Are you retarded?... if you ever sold coke, sure you gonna here lil lines n shyt that will make you think back. If you ever had sex sure there will be some line that will make you think. If you ever heard of any clothing label, product, done any event, or drove any car there might be something you can relate to.... but the truth is.... There aren't many successful young blacks who never listened to rap..... It's ignorant as fukk to think of it as a hindrance. We have real issues in our communities... music isn't one.

no im not kidding, and yeah i am definitely generalizing, i am making broad general statements, of course there are exceptions to it, but overall black people have an anti academic culture compared to the mainstream culture and other groups

i explained why I make those types of generallizations i this post http://www.thecoli.com/posts/7943845/

i suppose you can make the argument that american culture is ignorant, i wouldnt disagree but im curious why you generalize americans after making a speech about not generalizing

why is it weird?
as a fellow nigerian if i came across somebody with an igbo name and they weren't really igbo or following the culture I would question what the point of that was. to make some silly statement?

if asked them what the meaning of their name was and they couldn't tell me or break it down for me then it would just seem more like they were trying to make a statement.
