Mama's side is originally from West Virginia. Fam is all in DC, Maryland, VA now. Pop's fam is from McKeesport PA, but are all in LA or DC now. I was raised in DC, Denver & NorCal mostly. I have extended family in the deep south though

Since I dropped a little classic African American vernacular, I gotta mention the fact that i'm starting to see a lot of hispanics and other races using words like bae, guh, and bih, not to forget nikka even though they been took that. I take serious offense to that shyt, big time:ufdup:that is the dialect passed down to us from our African American ancestors. Them words ain't just no fukkin flavor of the week ass, hip hop catch phrases. I know African American cats from the northeast like to clown that dialect, but that shyt belong to yall nikkas too ni:ufdup:most of them cats prolly be hatians and jamaicans anyway, comin on here speakin that patois, sak passe shyt:pacspit: then try to demean our cultural speak:camby:nikka fukk no

Even deeper than that, lately I have been thinkin a lot about words like blood, cuz, and son/sun. I'm thinking those words come from the south because we always have used those words down here, just not quite in the same context. Only when the fam moved up to NY and Cali and different places is when blood and cuz became gang related and son/sun became 5% related. Just some shyt I been thinkin about.:birdman:

Brooklyn
I was born and raised in Brooklyn.

The maternal side of my family is from North Carolina. My mother was born and raised in Brooklyn.

Paternal side of my family is from South Carolina, but his family moved to Brooklyn when he was three, so he grew up in Brooklyn too. I'm not completely sure (I should probably ask him one of these days, but based on my paternal grandmother's accent (sounds kind of Caribbean-ish, but not quite) and a comment one of my father's friends made years ago that I heard, I'm betting at least her side of the family were Gullah

Is this thread aimed at mainly african Americans or is it a general ancestry thread?
