Wouldn't make it less authentic, is what I was trying to get at. Christmas isn't any less ceremonial or authentic because it's celebrated on an arbitrary date.

Some carnivals, namely Barbados, don't have religious undertones (Their carnival represents the end of harvest season. 'Crop [is] Over') nothing to do with lent.

It's next next week, you can still go.
Ok but carnival is intrinsically linked to the beginning to Lent

Crop over was changed to more resemble Trinidad's carnival

Did not know that.:ehh:

Its a very well known Caribbean nation and can take advantage of it.
If you haven't noticed, the places with the biggest carnivals are Roman Catholic with large black populations (Brazil, Trinidad, New Orleans etc.) Caribbean carnivals spread from Trinidad to the rest of the Caribbean . The eastern Caribbean is heavily catholic while places like Jamaica, Barbados Guyana Belize Antigua are most Protestant

Other than ignorance, I see no good reason to discount the Harlem Renaissance, Hip Hop, the silent riot, the earliest slave revolt in this country or the seat of Black America for 100 years.
None of that is discounted.

Can't be exclusively Southern but counted at the same time. :hula:
Exclusively? I don't think so and it never has unless you want to just ignore Detroit and Chicago. I'd say the culture is synonymous with the south for obvious reasons. That's where the majority of us reside, that's where we build and do well at economically and politically and that's just where the culture is. It's a reason why the southern twang and culture is intact pretty much every where outside of the east.

That's fine as an opinion piece, but there do exist independent strains of Black thought, commerce (DC and NYC have more Black-owned businesses than anywhere in the country.. Yes, including Atlanta) that don't fall back to the South. There are people in New York, Boston and Philadelphia who came here directly from them slave ships. 'The Nowf' is just as much a historical African American stronghold as the South. More so if you consider what we've been able to accomplish here versus the South.

And frankly, alot of nikkas up here ain't rising to the whole 'south is our Africa' thing yall be talking on here.

Cook county has more black business than anyone and NYC and DC are bigger than Atlanta, economically and politically, they don't hold a candle to Atlanta. And lol, hell nah. The east hasn't been culturally relevant for a while and DC is okay but Blacks in NY have no real pull in that city whatsoever. Atlanta hasn't had a non black mayor in literally decades, blacks might as well be a non factor in NY judging by the way NYPD puts in that work and judging by AA's taking they ass right back to the south when shyt got tough up there.

So say that, lol.. It's a "fukk them NY nikkas" thing. Yeen' gotta play the AA card and front like u care about our people.
DC is not bigger than Atlanta, has a smaller Black population than Atlanta yet still has a higher rate of Black owned business than Atlanta. The same can be said for Baltimore.

As far as political power, Black people in NYC have been able to effectuate broader levels of change on a national level (See: The stop put on Stop & Frisk by a federal judge off the strength of Black NYC politicians like Jumaane Williams and Hakeem Jefferies who lobbied against it... Recall that Stop & Frisk has been destructive to AA's in CHICAGO aswell.) . Blacks in NYC are a vocal and powerful force in general elections.. I really can't speak on how Black people are able to effectuate change in Atlanta, but with gentrification looming, I imagine it's negligible.

Atlanta having a Black mayor means very little when the level of income inequality remain static, keeping Blacks down. + Atlanta has one of (If not THE) the highest rates of us killing eachother. Blacks have the lowest quantifiable income levels in Atlanta (Wheras in Queens, Blacks make more than whites, same thing in PGC.),.. That's the "there's a black president tho!" talking point of 2009.

but iight tho broski, I see where you coming at it from so i'ma tip my hat.

Most coli ppl view the AA experience as exclusively Southern.
Exclusively? No, of course not.

Predominately rooted in the South? Yes, undoubtedly.

Honest question, in 2017 are there still alot of people in NY around with purely uncut northern AA roots? I'm sure its possible but I'd imagine it would be pretty rare in this generation, and those still around would be a much much older, yet fading generation.
