TBH until this thread I never knew Africans had this many excuses. It is sad that the same people that can cross the meditterenean sea in an inner tube, or overcome so much adversity to succeed academically can mentally melt so easily.

Africans (esp. Nigerians) on a per capita basis make a lot more money than many ethnicities (incl. white ethnicities like Danes) in the US, so of course they own businesses.

In fact, within 5 years of arriving in Canada, my uncle owned a business and hired our relatives. 20 years later, multiple branches of my family are wealthy including 2 doctors and 2 lawyers. In fact, I'll be the third lawyer when I finish law school in a few years.


Compared to Indians, there aren't a lot of us. If there were, you'd be complaining about us owning stores in your communities.

Nigerian immigrants are especially educated, with almost two-thirds holding college degrees -- a significantly higher percentage even than Chinese or South Korean immigrants. African immigrants are also very likely to hold advanced degrees, many of which are earned at U.S. universities. By many measures, African immigrants are as far ahead of American whites in the educational achievement as whites are ahead of African-Americans.

That education translates into higher household income. Nigerian-Americans, for instance, have a median household income well above the American average, and above the average of many white and Asian groups, such as those of Dutch or Korean descent.

Maybe you should worry more about your community. Nigerians, especially Igbos and Yorubas, are doing fine.

AAs were practicing group economics while Igbos were getting obliterated by their "countrymen" so whats your point?

You definitely don't want to go that route because AA's history of cooperative economics is much longer than continental Africa's.

On a historical basis, Igbo group economics obviously pre-date African-American group economics. Igbos have been in existence for at least 1500 years.

Tons of people migrate to the West. Also, we're not migrating to America in droves. That's the Indians and the Chinese.

You're really reaching to downplay Igbo/Nigerian success in the West. That's okay.

I think that we're one of the few groups of Africans that you actually can't say this about. We're everywhere, not just in the West. There are loads of diaspora Igbo communities throughout Africa, Asia, Europe and America and they tend to form their own state/village unions. These unions help to develop our communities back home.

Can they not develop the communities where they live as well? They may all be moving back home, but their children are not.

So the unions are actually state/village unions not pan-Igbo organizations?
