That's exactly what it was. They threw AEW some incentives to move, so the optics wouldn't look like they are kicking AEW from their time slot in exchange for the NHL. That type of thing happens in the business world all the time to save face with all parties involved.

TBS is a dead channel that mainly only shows reruns, so they could afford to throw them an extra show as any ratings from it would be way better than what's being current generated.

TBS isn't a dead network. It has more original programming than USA and TNT and their highest rated original shows are perennially in the top 15 of cable ratings.
Getting Dynamite will be a positive for TBS because it is higher rated than most of the stuff they show besides Star Wars flicks but that metric applies to a lot of the shyt on cable TV right now.

The majority of USA original shows are reality TV while three nights of TNT content is devoted to sports. If TNT had any faith that AEW would bring in more revenue and viewers on Wednesday than the NHL, then they wouldn't be the ones having to move to TBS. They had to give them incentives to give off the optics like they still have faith in their product.

Even then, it's still a win for TBS and Turner as AEW ratings will higher than any reruns or original programming they'd show in those time slots. Just as the NHL will bring in higher ratings than what AEW is currently bringing in now. Hence the move towards bringing in live sports over original programming as they are supposed to be "DVR proof."

We are talking about the NBA though and that was nearly 20 years ago. There’s no way in hell now that the NBA would let TNT air their games on TBS as it’s not in the agreement.

It’s an entire different cable and TV landscape now than it was back then.
