I was on basketball reference looking up some regular stat and i swear i seen some stat column with an / and a number like :wtf:

I cant be the only one who doesnt give a fukk about a PER, TSP etc :pacspit: like i dont even know when these shyts started being used and who came up with them.

All i know is fg% ft% ppg, assists, rebs and turnovers etc... you know the usual shyt. I could give a fukk less what a players per is and his tov, psg,

I hate when ppl be like look up his tsp against xyz in playoff games :dwillhuh:..shyt be looking like algebra to me.

Seriously who came up with this shyt?

I can guarantee you there's scouts/coaches/owners etc. that use this shyt to help guide their decision making and in the end that's all the matters. I'm sure somebody will immediately point out people that swear by advanced metrics and fail at their job but whatever.

I think it works much better in baseball than any other sport. Basketball and football...meh. It's more for the coaches and scouts.

Basketball fans like to get in arguments about PER, WinShares, Off/Def ratings, etc but have no clue how they are caluclated and how they're used. Wish they never got popular in that crowd.

advanced stats are amazing in baseball, that much is true. baseball is all about stats anyway as there is really no extending circumstances like in bball or football.

then theyre second best in football because they help to see the big picture since most people dont get it while just watching

they're least relevant IMO in basketball because of different lineups on the floor and very situational circumstances. also add the fact that individual players dominate much more in football and you dont really need advanced stats to see the whole picture. theyre good for looking at average players efficiency tho.

in baseball you can make a trade based almost purely on advanced stats tho

Advance stats doesn't show the shots NOT taken, defense, the critical rebounds/hustle plays, the goon plays, etc. That's just to name a few

Some people like advance stats because it doesn't paint a pretty picture for the player they hate:mjpls:

The people that hate advanced stats are the people who like players that the advanced stats don't paint a pretty enough picture for.

Basically.

Like I said before, they don't always account for the situation of the game or play. They can be manipulated to make someone look better/worse than they actually are too.

Nothing beats the eye test.

So that disqualifies them? :stopitslime: No stat can stand alone and account for everything, but the advanced stats are designed to do a better job of it than the conventional stats.

To really get a clear picture, you have to look at all of the numbers objectively, not just the ones that benefit your agenda.

That's what watching games is for.

That's the problem though...this is not always the case. People can manipulate statistics, from politics to sports.

In previous years, I've seen writers leave certain years of a player's career to defend their argument:what:
