they have to win 2 play-in games to make the playoffs so its likely theyll end up in the lottery anyway. the optics alone and backlash from their fans keep them from outright tanking and they were never in position to gain much from tanking after kyrie went down. if nothing else you get an idea of ad's fit alongside the rest of the roster and maybe get a better idea of who you want to bring back and what potential moves you need to make to be a contender next season.

big shot by ad should pretty much guarantee them a spot in the play-in. i'd expect them to end up playing memphis for the 8 seed.
