I feel like Hollywood's chosen looks over skills since the beginning though so this isn't new. The thing about acting though is you can get better if you actually work on your craft like any other skill.
Also with all these streaming shows and movies, it allows more projects for bad and mediocre actors to sneak into supporting cast roles.

If Burt Lancaster, Steve Mcqueen, Marcello Mastroianni and Marlon Brando were actors of today, what would they be in, Star Wars?
Now granted, Marlon Brando was in Superman but it's not like he constantly played in superhero movies; he had range as an actor and played a diverse role of characters.

The good actors were in Superman 2 though, not REeves but the cat who played Zod is a great actor. Gene Hackman as OG Lex Luthor is another one. Jack Nicholson and Val Kilmer were in Batman films. If you are a legit actor you can do both, like Chewitel getting setup big time in Marvel, Bosman in Black Panther, Robert Downy Jr. and Mark Ruffalo. All great actors who can do big pictures and indie "serious" acting.He made another good point too

What he was getting at and what I was getting at too, is that most of the actors of today who are in those movies aren't on those guys' level of acting.

I fully agree. The movie's a genuine classic and acting like it is merely "good" severely understates its brilliance and cultural impact.

There are good actors, its just the landscape has changed in movies to where the actor isn't really needed to shine in a role to carry the movie.. because the audience isn't watching movies for the actor anymore (outside of a real small handfull of actors).
Mickey Rourke is the Nas of acting. He'll put in a great performance. then follow it up with the worst fukking movies ever... I'm still trying to figure out how he went from The Wrestler to doing straight to DVD/VOD as movies like Passion Play and Java Heat...
He can run his mouth all he wants but he's the epitome of wasted opportinity.
