First of all, no one needs to tell you how it's wrong to criticize an entire group of people for the actions of one.

Secondly, the only reason Trump is for vetting, and calls mexicans rapists, wants to build a wall, is because Muslim/Latino don't vote republican, so more white people in the country keeps him in power. It has nothing to do with protecting us from mentally ill people stabbing 11 people on a college campus. This is the same reason John Adams passed the Alien & Sedition act in the 1790s to increase the length of time it took to become a citizen to 14 years, because immigrants didn't vote for his party.

Even if vetting did happen, if you want to solve the issue, put more focus on mental illness and support for that shyt. Not letting them into the country only puts the problem onto someone else. The underlying issue would still remain.

I think Islamophobia is going to receive bipartisan support from Democrats and Republicans because Muslims only make up about 1-3% of the population and dont matter when it comes to elections. And the number of Islamophobes greatly outnumber the number of Muslims by a lot. The Democrats might try to sway voters using Islamophobia/ Tough on Muslims rhetoric the same way they adopted Tough on Crime in the 90s
