:mjlol:@ Aaliyah not being that big at the time of her passing

She was only one of the biggest musical acts in the world at the time.:russ:

Threads like this is why you can only take messageboards halfway serious. :russ:

this is why we need more of those old message boards archived to hear how often she was talked about. Cause too many liars

Anybody remember every black school band playing “Are You That Somebody” back in school when that song dropped:mjlol:

Aaliyah was definitely NOT overrated. She might’ve not been the greatest singer but she was good at a lot of things, was beautiful, humble, made hits, was transitioning into movies, and everyone wanted to be around her. She had love in every hood... she was a genuine person.

Thanks for reminding me about that song. I think that was one of the first time I started getting into her that song was HUGE but folks talking about how she wasn't big :russ: people paid more attention to that song than the corny Dr Doo Little movie

also this is her at the 3:10 mark

not exceptional but that is a pretty good singer. she also showed her vocal skills on songs like the one i gave my heart to. that clip shows what i'm talking about how we didn't see the full potential cause she was also a dope dancer trying to do both at the same time. that was years before she died also and she was alot better in 2000 and 2001

Speaking of bands playing that song i saw this video recenty:

Dudes gotta just show some respect :francis: No matter how much they talk about how she just had great songwriters and producers, the sister is going down as a legend if we are reaching near 20 years since her death and she still has her music being timeless. I mean people get frustrated online about her Uncle having the rights to her music and not releasing it on streaming platforms. But people in here trying to disrespect and act like she just a flash in the pan.

Aaliyah (and Mary J) were really the only female singers that made music for US.

I respect a lot of people and I’m a fan of a lot of people but we gotta keep it real. Aaliyah was one of two females repping for the hood.

I get cacs calling her overrated. But to see nikkas shyt on her is mind boggling. By default, they are fags to me.

The Queen and Princess of Hip Hop Soul :wow:

Wait....Mary J, Aaliyah and Sade are all Capricorns? :gucci:

never got the fascination with this overrated broad :shaq2:

she wasn't even a top tier r&b singer when she was alive

I remember I was in middle school when she first came out and the girl in the grade above me looked pretty similar to her called into the radio station and said she was aaliyah :mjlol:

90s fukkery before social media was some next level shyt. :banderas:

Rumors spreading without the benefit of everybody being on the internet like that you know it had to be crazy

I remember I took a gamble and met a chick off Blackplanet who didn’t have any actual photos of herself, but Aaliyah was her profile pic. When I finally met her, to my surprise, she kinda looked like Aaliyah. Same complexion, jet black long hair, good fashion sense. Only difference is she wasn’t AS fine as Aaliyah (still cute though, just had bigger teeth), and she was thick, but not fat at all.

90s internet fukkery.

Back when getting your face on the internet took some real effort.

Take a pic with a camera

Go to a kodak station to develop the film

Scan it to disk

Then find a computer to upload saved jpg

:wow:

All of this was before myspace angles :wow:

i agree babygirl definitely had a better balance between music & her iconography

rih musical catalog is underrated nah it's not as legendary as aaliyah's but she's got cuts & it's not just the singles

*

I can agree with that but its not that many cuts. She had this one song that was very very underrated called Cold Case Love back in 2009, i think it may be one of her best songs. However even then that was from 2009 almost a full decade ago. Both Baby Girl and Rih had writers and producers but I think Baby Girl took her craft more seriously still because I"m assuming both had input in the final result. But Baby Girl seemed the one smart enough to know to have a consistent sound for each project and not be all over the place.

Both wanted to get into business which is no problem but Aaliyah took it more seriously.
