I feel like people forget Kevon Looney is still on the team lol

He'll play the David West, Bogut, Zaza roll as far as the passing, screening, switchable late game big man.

Wiseman is for the heavy minutes and to provide athleticism and size to a team lacking it. No big man comes in the league being ready to do everything and it's crazy people think that's what Wiseman has to do for the Warriors to pick him.

Looney is always hurt so you don’t really depend on him or remember he exists

Draymond and Chriss will be the Warriors' main rim protectors in the playoffs. Well, that's providing the former isn't going to continue on a sharp decline. It most certainly isn't going to be Wiseman. It seems folks have a completely unrealistic expectation of him.

Frontcourt shooting/spacing is more of a need than rim protection is.

:manny:
Dray and chriss are too small, the warriors need one big from the draft and the from the mle. It doesn’t sound like they can afford to use the exemption

In his defense he's been healthy the last couple years minus last year. He got hurt in the playoffs last year but so did everybody lol

He doesn't have to do everything out the gate. He just needs to provide the value the Warriors need from a big man to maximize their dwindling window, and I can't see him doing that. Not unless he has some rapid growth of a reliable floor spacer and a versatile defender in his rookie season.

And blocking a couple of shots every so often =/= rim protection.

No good having big men if they can't defend out on the perimeter and/or don't have the discipline and BBIQ to defend the paint, and you'd be crazy to think a big man in the draft is suddenly going to be the size presence this team needs for a deep playoff run. I don't know why this needs to be constantly reiterated.

no rim protection no ring, look at the last champions over the past 10 years. They all had adequate rim protection

And Draymond has been the rim protector on three of the last five championship teams. Funnily enough, only one team has won the championship over the last five seasons with a center as their rim protector.

Defensive versatility is more important than actual rim protection (in isolation) in today's climate. Your defensive anchor, or your main big, has to be able to defend the PnR and out on the perimeter. And of course, rim protection is important, but a 19-year-old rookie who hasn't shown the discipline nor BBIQ, isn't the answer to that. Especially since he's going to be near damn unplayable in the postseason when teams go small.

That’s a fuking layup drill, u know, like last season.
Rim protection wasn't going to make a notable difference last season when the breakdowns were happening all over the floor with an inexperienced and limited roster.

And to that point:

The Warriors were 15th in defensive FG% at the rim and 8th in contested shots at the rim last season. It certainly wasn't an area that was an Achilles' heel for them. However, defending the 3-pt line was one of their worst areas, ranking 30th (dead last), where they gave up a mammoth 39%. It was one of the reasons why they had the worst defense in the league.

You can’t defend the 3 point line when your opponents have a free run to the rim cause when their penetrating defenders are running to the paint to help and leaving the 3 point line exposed.

You're inadvertently implying that the initial defensive breakdown happens on the perimeter.

wiseman is another deandre ayton

yea he'll produce but will he make an impact?

i rather take a gamble than draft someone like that. the game is moving away from those type of oafs. u gotta use them in situational matchups like Lakers did with Dwight
