saw it in IMAX (LieMax) this weekend with my shorty

i fuxed with it....think it could have been a little shorter, but thats almost all movies.

i think the issue with her basically compromising her values was her just trying to stay sane and alive.

she hints to her dad that her mom was a drunk.

so any type of keeping your integrity at all costs was not even on the table after she sees what it did to B. Cooper. like yea man, you sing what you want, but you been through some shyt, and you literally can't keep it together to save your own life.

she wasnt gonna let that shyt happen to her.

watched it on Christmas day. really enjoyed it. it hits obvious notes but wasn't ever boring.
there is def an oscar in here somewhere.

thought Cooper did a great job considering he took on the task of directing, playing the lead and the music that came with it.
Gaga was very good. biggest compliment i could give both of them is i could see them as a couple.

movie has a wonderfully bizarre casting for most of the small roles around Cooper and Gaga.

no harm to Gaga but i only like the start of Shallow w/ Bradleys bit.

So where does it rank with the previous 3?

I would think most people would rank it number 2 - behind the previous iteration from the 70s, but ahead of the ones that came before that.

I would personally rank it number 1 - only because I'm not old enough to appreciate or get the first two, and I'd also much rather hear Gaga sing over Barbara Streisand. The 70s version was definitely more "of the times" and more of a relevant story, because the self-destructive damaged rockstar, and the starving struggling artist characters, are way more believable and "real" for that time period compared to 2018

This is one of my favorite movies of the year. Gaga fukkin killed it from the singing to everything else, and Bradley Cooper surprised the hell out of me. Plus he pays a lot of homage to how Kristofferson played the role in the previous version. Cant wait to see this again.

.

Nah. I think most people are putting the Babs version last, tbh. The 54 release would likely still be most people's preference. Personally, I like the 37 version more. But I'm partial to stories about Hollywood more than those about musicians.
