Not exactly book related but I noticed the previous three eps of this season have had lower ratings than last season. Quite a bit lower. Could be due to the ridiculously long wait between S1 and S2 but I'm curious how HBO/Max views this. S3 has already been greenlit and there's talk of there being four total seasons. Not to mention the other spin off shows. If the ratings don't rebound I wonder if they reconsider the commitment to Martin's work.
Which gets me to the books...if this shyt dies out because of the shytty last two seasons of GoT plus people not really being into the repetitive nature of HOTD (it's basically two sets, King's Landing and Dragonstone, over and over) all while Martin fails to get a book out...what a fall from grace. I thought the disaster of the final season would compel him to get his version out ASAP. Now here we are halfway through the second season of a spin off show with no updates or hope for another book.
I like HOTD btw, a lot. But I def wonder if it's just too dreary with not enough likable characters. I'm baffled why they didn't just expand Cregan Stark's role this season to add a new setting to things. He'll be a massive character in later seasons anyway, why not just establish him now and give people some Stark shyt.
